Commented On Voter Fraud
Much of this great country is currently embroiled in the Voter Photo-ID question, an issue that could easily decide the results of a close election. I grew up believing that the United States was founded on certain principles that set it apart from the rest of the nations of the world. In addition to our basic rights, two of these principles stand out above the rest. The first of these tenets i...s that a person accused of a crime is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and the second is the right of all citizens to vote in free elections.

It has often been said that it is better to let 1,000 guilty parties go free than convict a single innocent person. Using the same premise with regard to elections, isn't it better to allow a dozen voters without IDs to cast ballots than to deny even a single person who is otherwise entitled to vote? If we are to err on this issue it should be on the side of over-inclusion, and not unjust exclusion.

Unfortunately Hood's math needs some help. A $5.6 mil increase of a $67.5 mil budget is 8.3% not 14.3%. Note, inflation is now running 9.1% and county government is not exempt. Energy, fuel, materials and all other costs are subject to inflation also. Taxes were not increased. Also note that almost 1/3 of our budget is just a passthrough from the State to the Department of Social Services and the Health Department.

Joe Biden is worthless and is bent on starting a civil war.. Kathy Griffin today was quoted as saying if you don't vote for Democrats and vote for Republicans you are starting a civil war... Both of these treasonous jackass need to be imprisoned for promoting an insurrection !

I find it hard to believe that Voting in North Carolina is free and fair. The people overwhelmingly voted for voter ID to be used in our elections.. But the corrupt Marxist Democrats and this leftist Governor Cooper have somehow over rode the will of the people and blocked voter ID. I think Governor Cooper and the corrupt Marxist Democrats are rigging our election in N.C. again ! This time we'll be closely watching and WILL NOT BE SHUT OUT !

I didn’t see Willie Nelson on list but I saw him there in the early 70s performing with Doc Watson … Willie had recently cut ‘Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain’ and preformed it then … he should definitely be added!

Thank you, Mr. Deatherage, for you and BCN for providing this forum. Despite my previous posted comment a few hours ago, though, which has facts you cannot refute, your lead article about the September 17 debate in Morehead City (as of the time of this comment) still alleges Mr. Goodwin will try to "defend his record" of "scheduling" "exorbitant rates" for Downeast counties. I respectfully suggest that your promotion of that upcoming debate between Causey and Goodwin NOT rely upon a false premise. Goodwin rejected the rate increases; he has NOT raised homeowners insurance rates during his term. Perhaps the article could be amended/updated to say incumbent Goodwin and challenger Causey will discuss the serious problem of higher homeowners' insurance rates in coastal North Carolina. Just a suggestion, and one that keeps the issue rightly on your mind intact while removing the erroneous part. FWIW.

Dear Sir: As a journalist it is important to print facts and not state baseless claims. Mr. Goodwin's PREDECESSOR, Jim Long, is the one who raised homeowners' insurance rates by approving an increase in the base rate in 2008. North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin has NOT raised the base homeowners' insurance rates in eastern North Carolina. In fact, Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin rejected the recent 2011 attempt by insurance companies to raise the base rate. (If anyone's rates have changed over the last few years it is because certain insurance companies have voluntarily chosen to reduce some discounts for homeowners, etc., and the legislature made some amendments to the Beach Plan laws, things that Mr. Goodwin has no control over.) It is the disinformation and/or errors that you and others have stated that has confused the public as to whom the real defender of coastal homeowners is. Mr. Causey has worked 30 years for various insurance companies and worked as a legislative lobbyist. Mr. Goodwin is being sued by the insurance companies BECAUSE Mr. Goodwin rejected the rate increases that the insurance companies sought against the coast and eastern North Carolina. Mr. Goodwin also has worked closely with members of NC-20 to obtain changes in certain processes regarding ratemaking. Where has Mr. Causey been over the last four years? He only pops up in certain election years -- namely, 1992, 1996, 2000 and now in 2012. Just because Mr. Causey announced his campaign in Dare County doesn't make him your best friend. And just because he pops up in election years doesn't make him the best person to represent coastal North Carolina as state insurance commissioner. I encourage you to check Mr. Goodwin's actual record. In the insurance commissioner's race, it is Wayne Goodwin who has a proven record of fighting against the insurance companies, including ordering insurance companies to send back $1.3 billion back to people and businesses, and ordered insurance companies to return $16 million to the Beach Plan surplus. I hope to attend the Morehead City debate and hear Mr. Causey's arguments melt when exposed to the heat of the truth. And, most respectfully, I hope you will not make baseless assertions against an elected official such as Mr. Goodwin without verifying the facts. I bet the debate is going to be very enlightening.

Washingtonian's "hope and change" pitch for Armstrong tries to present him as "new" to politics, but Armstrong is NOT. Not too long ago, Armstrong was a registered Democrat in Hyde County, and he did engage in politics there, DEMOCERAT politics. Armstrong was a Marc Basnight Democrat, and wrote big 4 figure checks to Basnight.

It tells you a lot about Armstrong's political ideology that he has never given a nickel to a Republican legislator or legislative candidate but he had no problem writing a big check to Marc Bashight, a notorious liberal power bully. Armstrong may be new to Republican politics but he is not new to politics generally. He is a warmed over Basnight Democrat trying to reinvent himself as a Republican.

No wonder Armstrong does not want to talk about issues. No wonder Washingtonian cannot identify one single issue on which she can try to claim Armstrong has a better, more conservative position than Kidwell.

We have too many useful idiots for the left and the RINOs who ignore real issues and vote on silly personality matters instead.

WE have a conservative Republican with a proven and very solid conservative voting record representing us in Raleigh. Why in the world would we want to replace him with a warmed over Bashight Democrat who was recruited by the RINOs? Serious voters vote on policy and issues, not get their panties in a twist over personalities.

Still can't come up with a single ISSUE you think Armstrong is better on than Kidwell, JV???? That "Christian Zionist" thing did not work any better than MTG's "Jewish Space Lasers".

You and those like you here can only whine about personality and your own hatreds. Most of us are more interested in the issues and policy legislative candidates will push in Raleigh. I see that Washingtonian also cannot seem to come up with a single genuine issue, but just keeps plddling along with that Obama-style "Hope and Change" message.

Lets look at a few issues.

The only policy issue Armstrong mentioned in his announcement was "2nd Amendment" but on the campaign trail, he says he is "pro Second Amendment but not as much as Kidwell". What does that really mean? His three special guests at his fundraiser were opponents of gun rights. Frankie Waters dumped on concealed carry for county employees. Steve Traxler is so hated by gun rights people that the leading state level gun rights group endorsed the Libertarian against him in the last election. Jimmy Dixon is the man who killed Constitutional Carry in last year's legislative session. Armstrong is clearly someone we cannot trust on this issue. Kidwell, on the other hand is one of the strongest voices for gun rights in the legislature.

Or take Shrimpgate, Phil Berger's attempt to destroy our NC shrimp industry to pander to an environmaentalist special interest, the CCA which dangled dollars in front of him. Armstrong has made noises about supporting the shrimpers, and tried to get a shrimper to take him out on the water for a photo op. The shrimper declined because he was running against Kidwell who was one of two key players in saving the shrimp industry from Berger. Armstrong had to settle for taking a picture on land with some shrimp boats in the background. Now, commercial fishermen have become aware that Armstrong was seen in Greenville, out of the district, trying to solicit support and probably money from a key leader of the CCA, the group that is trying to put the shrimpers and other commercial fishermen out of business. How two faced can a politician get?

Kidwell laid out where he stood on the issues when he was first elected, and he has honored his promises. That is the sort of elected official we need. Armstrong doesn't tell you where he stands on much, and when he does, he appears to be speaking with a forked tongue.

Again, I invite you to discuss real ISSUES, not some gibberish about 5D chess and various "guards".

WE get it, JV. You vote on personality, not issues. Could you name one actual ISSUE where you think Armstrong'a position is better than Kidwell's???? One actual ISSUE???? Not personality, ISSUE.

You sound like those who refused to vote for Trump due to his personality, even though they agreed with him on the issues. People thinking that way gave us Biden. Were you one of them?

Any local government that puts all this severance pay nonsense in contracts with career bureaucrats is betraying their taxpayers. In state and federal government, policy level management serves at the pleasure of the policymakers, and that is the way local governments should operate. The golden parachute that the Sadler machine gave to their city manager flunky was a violation of state law, and it is an outrage that the current city government is not trying to claw that back for our taxpayers.

It's typical, the very first responce to your "rhetoric" fails to mention any facts, court cases, etc...to refute the points you made. The best arguement made in the opening salvo is that you are a "hater", so tired of hearing that trivial responce.

No respect at all for Holder. And I challenge anyone to give 2 examples (that haven't been overturned by the courts)of anything his DOJ has done that showed his respect for the Constitution being applied fairly and equitably to everyone. I apologize for my last comment. It may have been a tad too out there for some. That is my fault. Let me regroup here:

The numbers in this poll of 600 likely Republican primary voters, with all of the corporate mathematical formulas aside, solidifies what some still call a "conspiracy theory" within the GOP.

Both Trump and Robinson aren't polling where they thought they would even by primary standards. I'm noticing that news outlets such as Right Side Broadcasting Network and OANN are even addressing these issues but not in an overtly obvious way. The issue of "hitting the pavement" to get the "undecided vote" is one that's especially concerning to the starting team of the NC GOP's front runners.

As far as the numbers of the poll are concerned, again, just over 300 people may likely vote for Trump. On the other side, less than 300 people would likely vote for Robinson. More people have questions and more people are finding out that no one wants to answer them.

They don't forget.

Steed: Truth be told, I'd say that Trump is the reason why the GOP is split three ways. You've got the everyday GOP, you got the MAGA Republican crowd and then you've got the younger to middle age crowd that's burning Trump on his wishy washy stance on the SARS-COV-2 "vaccines", his comments about how Israel ("New Khazaria" as it used to be listed on old maps) should be immune from the International courts and his "Freedom Cities" (the same thing as a 15 minute city but sounds better to the voter).

This presents a big problem that nobody talks about. Democrat numbers are low but so are Republican numbers across the board which is why Trump and Kennedy will push the third party. They know that the old system is effed and that most of their base/former base will not accept it because some of them are smart. They've figured out the consent is everything in this game and that if people dont consent, the dominoes will fall.

I'd be careful about pushing Trump. He's upset the wrong group.

Response to Mr. Deatherage: No, sir. I'm not referring to the illuminati when I'm talking about "5-2". "5-2" is the number you yourself gave out when you were categorizing your fellow commissioners. It tells me and everybody else with a good third eye that somebody's getting nervous because the bettin' odds don't look to good for the small group Hood and yourself represent. I'm not being funny when I say that either.

It's a shame that our county couldn't put together a dream team to carry on after 2020.

Here's what they're REALLY saying:

"We're going after anyone who is critical of Israel, US Foreign Policy and the President. You shall not question anything unless we instruct you to do so."

Look up the SHALOM Act that passed here in NC a couple of years ago....this is just one example

I think the biggest pile of dinosaur s*** in the middle of the room here is, again, how do you justify increasing taxes to build two Metropolis Mega schools when you don't even have the students to justify building them?

Nobody has brought this up since all the other hoohoo has been in public conversation; ain't that somethin'?

The two Metropolis Mega dump site proposal got shot down because of.....an increase in cost. Hmmm..riddle me this, Alfred: if the cost of the dump sites went up, wouldn't that mean the cost of other shit, shit needed to build a school, has gone up too? Odds are it's probably doubled, wouldn't ya say?

It don't take Batman to figure out that somebody doesn't know what the hell they're doing and it's costing us a lot of bread; bread we ain't got.

Miss Diane was a sweet lady, a beautiful soul and a devoted patriot that saw the best in everyone. We lovingly called her our "Sarah Conner" for her courageous fight against cancer.

We should all take a page out of her book. She will most certainly be missed here in this plane but she is resting peacefully beyond the sunset.

Rest easy, Miss Diane.

Prendiegirl, WITN stated, as of June 3, that 47 people have been identified in the vandalism. What the hell do FERPA laws have to do with this situation other than being used as a "bleeding heart" cop-out, exactly?

In the state of NC, you're an adult at 16. Best I can recall, most of the 47 identified are over 16 years old. If it were my child and he got caught doing stupid s***, as my granddaddy used to say:

"If you're gonna be stupid, you better be tough."

Commented On You can change this
This is a rather slanted view of what actually happened at this school board meeting. Yes, there were lots of folks there and that was refreshing. NO there has been no attempt by the school board to adopt the aforementioned curriculum. It is only one of 28 curricular that the board has investigated. Some members of the board even intimated that they would not adopt this curriculum. It is unfortunate that some members of the board can't get their facts straight and talk more than they listen. You can't learn anything with your mouth wide open. It is also dubious that the 3 R's alone will do anything to turn this society around. The only thing that will is a Classical Education rooted in the truth.

Great article Diane. However, we have eliminated the in depth study of the arts (Dance, music and the visual arts) to our great detriment especially with young children who thrive when info is delivered with the aid of the arts. Ask anyone who has been a musician how their math skills are. Ask any visual artist how their human skills have been improved. I recommend that every parent, teacher and administrator read " This is your brain on Music". We must remember that that the second greatest collection of dance, music and the visual arts is only surpassed by the written word. This collection of arts is the product of genius and children need to be put in touch with it. Did you know that MIT has a concert Band and a Jazz Band?
