Unfortunately Hood's math needs some help. A $5.6 mil increase of a $67.5 mil budget is 8.3% not 14.3%. Note, inflation is now running 9.1% and county government is not exempt. Energy, fuel, materials and all other costs are subject to inflation also. Taxes were not increased. Also note that almost 1/3 of our budget is just a passthrough from the State to the Department of Social Services and the Health Department.

Cutting off one's nose to spite one's own face" is an expression used to describe a needlessly self-destructive overreaction. To do someone that is meant to harm someone else but also harms the person who does it. Don't cut off your nose to spite your own face" is a warning against acting out of pique, or against pursuing revenge in a way that would damage oneself more than the object of one's anger.

There are some Republicans seeking to cast a revenge vote and now going to vote on the democrat ticket because their candidate lost in the primary. Now casting a vote for a candidate of the party of Biden, Pelosi , Schumer, Roy Cooper and our local democrat leaders out of revenge. You know no matter who loses as those in the primary, whether it be Rogerson or Hammonds their lives will continue on as ours will. To cast a revenge vote is “cutting off your nose to spite your own face”.

Revenge is sweet they say for only a short time while the consequences will effect us for years.

Stan Deatherage I would encourage your readers to look up the interview on the internet with Fox News! They report we decide. I am a conservative Republican and I support the core values of the Republican Party!

I would like to comment on one of the questions in this poll regarding HB 370.

Speaking of left wing dreams we have a sheriff of Beaufort County that said on Fox News it’s a sheriffs right to hold or not hold a criminal illegal for ICE. He guesses they the sheriffs are doing what’s in their heart he said. I say A sheriff’s right over the safety and welfare of the citizens of this county, our state, our country they are to serve and protect?? Isn’t that in direct contrast on what Trump is doing? Absolutely!! Trump called out Cooper for vetoing the bill and our sheriff saying it’s a sheriffs right! What is going on here?
Side note- as of now holding criminal illegals for ICE is a request to the sheriffs- the N.C. state representatives voted and passed a bill called HB 370 requiring sheriffs to hold criminal illegals for ICE and not release them back on the streets and in our counties. The democrat governor vetoed it. And this was our sheriffs response. He didn’t stand against Cooper vetoing the bill instead he said its a sheriffs right to not hold them. It’s on Fox News video. You can look it up! Unbelievable and wrong!!!
And might I add as long as this is only a request let’s say a criminal illegal is released back on the street by a sheriff that saids he will work with ICE although just a request and he releases a criminal illegal back on the street that commits another crime perhaps of a violent nature. The sheriff can then say well it was only a request and he slipped through by accident. I didn’t have to hold them. It’s not a thou shalt it’s only a request!!
A sheriffs right over the safety of the citizens of our county. Need I say more? Something is not right!!!

Maybe you need to do some research on topics like this before you write an asinine article. Cardiac monitors ARE used to treat cardiac issues not just look at the patient’s heart and monitor vital signs. They use electricity to correct cardiac dysrhythmias. They monitor more than just a blood pressure and pulse. As a tax paying citizen of Beaufort County, I believe our EMS providers are entitled to have the BEST equipment to save lives. I would think as a county commissioner that is supposed to “represent” the constituents, you’d want that too. I’d hate to see the expense of a lawsuit against Beaufort County due to a death linked to one of the outdated and out of service cardiac monitors that you’re using now. I’d personally hold you responsible. Time for you to retire Hood!

I have come to the conclusion that after the 9-11 tragedy, when we were attacked by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda, though they destroyed buildings and killed thousands of people, they didn’t managed to destroy the United States and Americans will to survive and move forward. Nor did it stop America’s support of Israel, or its involvement in the Persian Gulf War and its continued military presence in the Middle East. So now they have come up with a new plan to destroy the United States from within our government.

Now we have a “Democratic Socialist Squad” of 4 women: 1. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez born in the Bronx, NYC, of spanish decent in a Catholic Family. 2. Rashida Tlaib, born in Detroit, Mi., the first Palestinian-American woman in Congress of Muslim Faith. 3. Ilhan Abdullahi Omar born in Mogadishu, Somalia, of Muslim Faith. 4. Ayanna Soyini Pressley, born in Chicago, Il., African American, religious preference unknown.

Doesn’t anyone see and hear and understand what is going on? These 4 women have completely different core values from what our Constitution stands for. The people who voted these 4 in are searching for a leader to lead them to the “FREE” land, where everything is free, because they think this country owes it to them or they are just to lazy to go out and get it for themselves. This is not what this country was founded on. And what these people don’t understand is nothing is life is for free and eventually someone will be around to collect the payment and the payment will be so large that you will lose everything, even your freedom. That is called “COMMUNISUM”.

Funny to me how hypocritical your "defund the police" movement is so adamant here in Beaufort County when the Beaufort Observer and BCN has such a strong opinion against other "defund the police" movements happening across the country in states, cities, and towns you know absolutely nothing about.

But that should be the entire point, correct? Forming our opinions based on merit instead of political party? Something Beaufort Observer and BCN has zero interest in doing until it serves the Reublican interest?

This is nothing more than a smear campaign by a front group for the meat industry, which has long tried to make PETA and other animal protection groups look bad in an attempt to distract from the real issues. Unlike the industries this group represents--which kill animals painfully, so they can make money by selling their flesh--PETA is a shelter of last resort for animals who need euthanasia to end their suffering (many of whom have been rejected by other facilities because euthanizing them would make their “numbers” look bad). This includes dogs who are aggressive and unadoptable because they have been kept chained their entire lives; feral cats dying of contagious diseases; animals who are wracked with cancer; elderly animals who have no quality of life and whose desperate guardians brought them to PETA because they can’t afford to pay a vet to euthanize them; and the list goes on. Euthanasia is a kindness for animals who are suffering beyond hope and have nowhere else to turn. PETA refers healthy, adoptable animals to local shelters and has also found excellent, lifelong homes for many animals themselves. Please watch this short video to see some of the animals PETA has helped in its community: www.youtube.com.

I was not familiar with this story until I stumbled upon Westerby at the early voting site about a week out from the election and he turned his head away from the crowd, and said with a big grin on his face, "an Exocet Missile has been launched out here" Intrigued, I studied up on the battle, and quickly became hip to what was going on when the next time out there I saw the target babbling away on his cell phone as a couple of dozen voters walked right pass him. It reminded me how the air 'defence officer was talking on a satellite phone when the missile hit.
