Democratic Rep. Glazier urges transparency, compromise

RALEIGH     Civility, transparency, and an increased willingness to hear a range of ideas could improve the debate in North Carolina's General Assembly. A veteran member of the N.C. House's Democratic caucus made that case during a speech Monday to the John Locke Foundation's Shaftesbury Society.

Republicans will hold a 74-46 supermajority in the House when lawmakers reconvene in January. They will have the votes to pass legislation without Democratic Party input. But Rep. Rick Glazier, D-Cumberland, says he hopes his colleagues across the aisle will avoid abusing that power.

In the video clip below, Glazier discussed the value of civility in legislative debate.
