RALEIGH     Doctors who deal with Medicaid patients on a day-to-day basis could offer N.C. policymakers plenty of good ideas for cutting costs while maintaining or improving care. Conversations with those doctors should take place before the state reforms or considers expanding its Medicaid program.

That was one of the key points Dr. David Stein of Burlington made during a presentation today to the John Locke Foundation's Shaftesbury Society. Stein and his wife, Rosemary, founded IFC Pediatrics in 1999. IFC Pediatrics is the second-largest Medicaid provider in Alamance County.

In the video clip below, Stein explains how common-sense ideas could lead to cost savings that do not threaten quality of care.
