News Release:

Greenville, NC     All claims brought by the Town of Belhaven and the NC NAACP in the recent lawsuit against Vidant Health have been dismissed in their entirety. The Order granting the Motion to Dismiss was officially entered in Beaufort County on Oct. 13.

"Vidant's commitment to providing health care in Belhaven is steadfast," said Roger Robertson, president of Vidant Community Hospitals. "We are here to stay and are making a significant investment, both in people and resources, as we move forward with plans for a new, $5.5 million, 12,000 square-foot, 24/7 health care facility."

This new facility opening in June 2016, will initially focus on providing quality primary care to best meet the vast majority of patient needs in the community. The clinic will be equipped to address many patients' acute care needs on-site as well as have the ability to transfer patients with higher acuity needs via helicopter or ambulance transport, as appropriate. In the future, new services and technologies will be added to meet the needs of the community.

Employees from Vidant's three Family Medicine practices in the area will be relocated to the new facility, with professional positions including Medical Doctors, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Medical Assistants, Radiology Technicians, Medical Laboratory Technicians and multiple clerical support staff.

In addition, patients will have access to Vidant's Health Coaches and the system's Tele Health program to help them more effectively manage chronic diseases. All patients at the new facility will have access to our state-of-the-art electronic health records system. This new model of care will provide the community with more sustainable health care in Belhaven, now and into the future.

Currently, Vidant continues to see nearly 100 patients a day between the three family physician practices and at the 24/7 office, evidence that the new multispecialty facility is the right approach for health care in this community. In addition to seeing patients by appointment, Vidant has several upcoming free health screenings.
