Council of State approved transactions to sell downtown Raleigh properties

    RALEIGH     The Council of State on Tuesday approved the sale of five buildings in downtown Raleigh, which will bring more than $1.8 million to state coffers.

    The General Assembly's Program Evaluation Division and the State Property Office said the five properties are no longer used by state government.

    "We sold some assets and got some money into the treasury," Gov. Pat McCrory said as the council approved the sale.

    The governor, lieutenant governor, and eight other statewide elected officials make up the Council of State.

    Last week, Tim Walton of the State Property Office told a legislative oversight subcommittee that most of the sale prices for the properties were coming in higher than the asking prices.

    The five properties, located within walking distance of the state Capitol, contain preservation covenants.

    The Ashley House on East North Street will be sold to TLC Francis LLC for $500,500. The Lamar House on North Person Street will be sold to Matthew Brown for $536,000. The Watson House will be sold to Thomas and Judith Porter for $291,600. The Gay House on North Person Street will be sold to Kimberly Wagner and Robert Frank Wagner for $275,000. The Worth House on North Person Street will be sold to Darcia Black for $245,100.
