Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) was charged this month with driving with a revoked license, a misdemeanor that carries up to 20 days in jail, though offenders are typically hit with a fine or probation.

According to a report from the Ashville Citizen Times, the 26-year-old congressman was pulled over in Cleveland County, North Carolina, mid-morning on March 3, after his 2019 Toyota Truck crossed the center line.

Trooper Tyler Gantt cited the representative for driving with a revoked license. Cawthorn "was very polite and cooperative," the trooper noted in his citation.

"The driver was identified as David Madison Cawthorn, 26 years old of Hendersonville, N.C.," said Highway Patrol spokesperson Sgt. Marcus Bethea, adding, "During the course of the investigation it was determined that the driver's license was in a state of revocation and he was subsequently charged with driving while license revoked."

"Cawthorn uses a wheelchair after being seriously injured in a 2014 car accident in Florida," Citizen Times noted. "A friend who was driving fell asleep while Cawthorn slept in the passenger seat, according to his 2019 federal court filing against the insurance company."
