Dear Stan,

I just wanted to write a quick note and thank you for your help in protecting county revenues during the General Assembly's tax reform effort. You have helped us achieve one of our top goals for this Legislative session.

The House and Senate came to an agreement on tax reform Monday, and I am pleased to let you know that the approved plan will not negatively impact county revenues. In fact, we expect to see a slight increase in county revenues once the plan is approved this week and eventually implemented. According to estimates from the General Assembly, revenues to local governments should increase by more than $14 million for 2013-14 and more than $36 million in 2014-15. This is welcome news and a drastic turnaround from earlier plans. I firmly believe that the active engagement of commissioners from around the state helped turn what could have been a negative into a positive.

We expect the session to last for about one more week. Please be ready to once again respond to our call for help if an issue arises that we feel needs immediate attention.

Thank you for all you do for our counties.

     Executive Director
