Australian state election proves huge surge for anti-immigration One Nation Party is real | Eastern NC Now

runs second in state of South Australia

ENCNow

Recent polls in Australia have been showing the anti-immigration One Nation Party hovering around 20% nationally.  They received only 3% in last year's national election for Parliament, and many observers questioned whether the poll numbers were real.  The state election in late March in the state of South Australia proved they are very real.

In South Australia, One Nation received the second highest vote total of any party, 22.5%, up 19.9 points from the 2.5% they received in the last election.  They won 4 of the 47 seats in the lower house, the Assembly, and 3 of the 22 seats in the upper house.  One Nation captured one seat from Labor, two from the Liberals, and one from an Independent.   The anti-immigration FairGo Party also won an upper house seat.

The Labor Party, long dominant in the state won overall, as expected.  The big loser was the Liberal Party which saw its vote share drop 16.3 points to 18.4%.  It won 5 assembly seats.

Although One Nation has held federal senate seats for several election cycles, this is only their second state to win state level legislative seats.

This is Australia's first major election since the Bondi Beach massacre.  One Nation has focused on strident opposition to immigration, particularly illegal immigration since its founding, but has recently added opposition to climate alarmism, particularly opposition to Labor's drive for an energy transition to wind and solar.  One Nation was the first Australian party to come out in total opposition to wind and solar, but that soon led to the rural-based National Party joining them in that position.  Finally, the Liberal Party took a position of opposing wind and solar in areas that do not want it.
