This is an absolute outrage to taxpayers. Did some bureaucrat not vet them properly or did the applicants lie on their application? Either way, somebody ought to be prosecuted in each one of these cases. Also the money should be clawed back from any state where this happens.

Commented on Reminder: Scheduled City Council MeetingI have heard rumblings that some of the dark political forces in our city may have made threats against Fritz' business. Don't know if that is true, and whether or not it is true, I would expect Fritz to protect his business by denying it. Fritz defending that pair smacks of him trying to placate somebody for something, and that makes those rumblings even more believable.

Commented on Reminder: Scheduled City Council MeetingPerrault letting himself get sucked into Trye's war with Bobby Roberson, the only insider in city government I trust, was the first sign of a problem. Tyre fanning the flames of a split between Davis and Perrault was the biggest problem, and both of them got suckered into that situation. Then they go and hire a career bureaucrat with a questionable history and pay him more than a US Senator to be a city manager of a town of under 10K population. That scoundrel Tyre has played them like a fiddle..

Commented on Tax Fraud, Beaufort County StyleElected officials are the ones who are supposed to set policy, and the bureaucrats are the ones who are supposed to carry it out. If a bureaucrat talks about "defending democracy" he is getting out of his lane and into that of the elected officials. Our Washington elected officials need to tell their manager to CUT SPENDING and CUT TAXES and come out with a budget that does that.
Has these ever been a public vote to hire the city manager??????

Commented on Washington, N.C., Deserves Better Than ThisI concur that the vote on budget / taxes will be Perrault's last chance to get right with the voters who put him in office. After that, his defection to the dark side of Washington politics will be the end of his political career. He still has a chance to save it, but it is getting down to the short rows. The Sadler machine is a corrupt tax and spend monstrosity. Does he really want to align with that?
Tyre was clever in promoting a personality split between Davis and Perrault, but Perrault ought to have the brains to figure out that he is being used.

Commented on Washington, N.C., Deserves Better Than ThisHow much is Washington paying it's new city manager? Also what about the County manager?
For comparison, a US Senator makes $174,000, the NC governor $165,000, and major Council of State officers like the NC Attorney General, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the State Treasurer, etc. make $146,000. A city manager in Washington or a county manager in Beaufort County is a much lower level than any of those. So how much are they being paid?

Commented on Washington, N.C., Deserves Better Than ThisWhat Washington needed as a city manager was someone with a sharp pencil able to cut through all the bloat and waste, cut spending, and cut taxes. We need someone with a good track record of doing just that. Instead, they give us a guy who is clearly a bureaucrat's bureaucrat. That is what Washington does NOT need. We have had way too much spending under the previous regime and a lousy city manager who was a big part of the problem.
Tyre was also a big part of the problem that got us in this mess, and any elected official who kisses his ass is absolutely worthless. This is all so sickening.

Commented on Queen Garris Shoots Herself in the Foot - AgainFrom what I hear the Walkers were sticking their noses in lots of races this time, including the commissioner races and the sheriff's race and perhaps others. I hear they were also campaigning hard against Sheriff Hammonds. Hammonds opponent, Kerry Cox was forced to resign after the last sheriff's race for endorsing the Democrat in the general election while holding a party office in the GOP. After this election, Cox has turned all of his campaign sign boards over to the Democrat. This year's Democrat nominee is not qualified, having bounced around all over the state with different law enforcement agencies, never able to make a go of it anywhere. It has been a while since he worked in any type of law enforcement. The sour grapes of Cox is unbecoming.
Both Walkers come up for election again in 2028 and all of their activities in the 2026 primary are likely to motivate a lot of folks to help take them both out of office then. there is a saying that elephants have long memories.

Commented on Queen Garris Shoots Herself in the Foot - AgainThe soap opera going on within the local Republican Party is a distraction from what really matters. That is electing a conservative county commission that will do something about our taxes. We also need to reelect our sheriff and state senator. We have already lost our state representative to the special interests' sock puppet and the school board appears hopeless.
Whatever needs to be done in the local Republican organization can be attended to the next time they have a convention to elect officers, but we have something more immediate we have to deal with, called an election, and its consequences matter a lot more to our taxpayers.

Commented on poll: large majority of American voters favor crackdown on those who employ illegal aliensHaving regular audits of all businesses would be an undue burden on many who do not break the law. However, if it is targeted on industries where hiring of illegal aliens is rampant - meat packers, big farmers, construction, etc., it would be appropriate and well deserved.
Some months ago, ICE came down on a meat packer, who had many of their illegal alien employees picked up for deportation. The company whined about it, but when word got out, they had more Americans applying for those now vacant jobs than they had jobs. The claims that they were "jobs Americans won't do" was proven false.

Sorry, Washingtonian, but the only ones going to get representation from Armstrong are the special interests in Raleigh that dumped half a million dollars into an independent campaign to buy him the seat. That is who he owes, BIG TIME, and who he will represent. If you watched his campaign, his own interests were clearly tunnel vision on one issue, Big Ag, so that is the other group he will represent. Anybody else? Not so much.
You are clearly more focused on petty internal political party matters, not the big picture of conservative principles. You and Phil Berger are obviously both overjoyed that the strongest voice of conservatism in the General Assembly will be silenced by the crooked special interests.

One telltale sign that Armstrong, Davis, and Williams are all really still Democrats is that all of their campaign signs were predominantly Democrat blue. It is oh so curious that they all chose the Democrat Party color for their campaign signs in a Republican primary. They are all as phony as a three dollar bill. Edwards did that, too.
The Armstrong signs at Democrat homes and businesses was also a "tell".

This issue all comes down to the special interests versus the people. If a company produces a product that causes cancer, they ought to have to compensate the victims. Kidwell and most Republican stood for that principle. A small group of special interest oriented politicians stood with the special interests. Dixon and Traxler are two of those, and Armstrong agrees with them.
It was not just Kidwell. It was most Republicans, who stood with average citizens and against protecting special interests. The chemical company tried the same thing in the US Congress, and in spite of a few special interest types, most Republicans refused to protect the special interests. They tried it in most states, but only suckered two states out of 50. In North Carolina, the Republican House Caucus overwhelmingly said NO to this special interest legislation. Armstrong has a huge conflict of interest here. The chemical company involved is Monsanto, and its successor. Armstrong has extensive business dealings with Monsanto's seed division, growing genetically modified seeds for them. Armstrong has refused to reveal that conflict of interest to voters. Roundup may be a danger beyond just employees on farms and their neighbots. Research in Florida has found Roundup in bread on grocery store shelves. It has also been marketed for home use..

I wish we had a state taxpayers group making recommendations on candidates, but I guess that overall conservative group includes those issues.
When it comes to voting records in office, two pro-taxpayer candidates stand out as fighting for lower taxes and ending wasteful spending. Those are Keith Kidwell in the NC House and Stan Deatherage on the county commission. I like what Ashley Woolard and Travis Martin are saying on taxes, too, but Stan has the proven record. In the House, I don't even think Darren Armstrong comprehends what tax and spend issues even are. Kidwell has always stood up for the taxpayers.

This is really curious. It may answer why we have two Republicans running for the same seat and leaving the other District Court race unopposed. Jarvis got into the race for this seat first. When Williams expressed interest in running, the party suggested he run for the other District Court seat which is held by Darrell Cayton. That made a lot of sense because the makeup of the district would likely have seen Republicans win both seats.
Williams decided to primary Jarvis for that seat rather than have a nomination without a primary for the Cayton seat. The latter would have been an easier path to a judgeship and likely give the GOP both seats. What is the real reason he did not do that? Was there some deal between Williams and Cayton? This whole thing stinks to high heaven.

We need to watch out on this here in North Carolina because the RINOs led by Phil Berger put us on this path, too, with the total Senate rewrite of HB951 a few years ago. It sets CO2 targets even more severe than the European Union's "Green Deal". Phil Berger gave NC a Green New Deal that is worse than Europe's. He is AOC without the skirt.
That is why I am really pulling for the primary defeat of Berger next month and the primary defeat of all of his affiliated candidates like Carren Armstrong here.
