Van Zant, I agree that actions speak louder than words, and Stan has proven himself as a taxpayer champion for years. A proven record is one of the most important things in politics, and Stan has it.

The Democrat in the race is a proven spendthrift and taxer, the worst of the lot. John Edwards talks in a way that he seems to be on the right path, but if you listen to him closely, he always puts in a qualifier that avoids a real commitment to the position he is trying to imply. Politicians like that are not ones that can be trusted. Ashley Woolard says all the right things on taxes, but he has not been in a position to prove his commitment. He does make solid commitments, unlike Edwards, but has not yet been in a position to prove them.

Everything considered. with one vote in our crazy system, that will go to the proven fighter for the taxpayer, Stan Deatherage. If I had a second vote, it would go to Woolard. The absolute last choice would be the tax and spend Democrat.

It is high time our legislators put the brakes on this "climate" nonsense that is jacking up our power bills. The first blow, the "portfolio standards" was done by a Democrat legislature but Thom Tillis as GOP House Speaker blocked a Republican effort to repeal it, thus leaving that rotten scheme in place. Then the GOP itself knifed ratepayers in the back by allowing "leadership", RINO Senate boss Phil Berger and RINO House Speaker Timmy Moore to ram through Berger's rewrite of HB951, which was NC's Green New Deal. Shame on them! It is a huge victory that socialist Berfer was defeated in his GOP primary this year.

You also clearly have an out of control power hungry tax and spend bureaucrat as your city manager. He was instructed by the City Council by majority vote to produce a budget budget that substantially cut taxes, but instead produced a tax and spend budget. Has he now become a political pawn of the Sadler machine?
Commented: Thursday, June 11th, 2026 @ 3:58 pm By: Concerned Taxpayer
Van Zant, you are right. The vote to substantially raise taxes was 3 to 1, with Joe Davis the only NO vote. There is lots of fluff in that tax increase budget, as there was in the last one. Perrault actually denied at last night's meeting that he had even run on the Tax Cut Team. I am sure that is news to voters who voted for him.

Perrault's other interesting line was to accuse Joe Davis of only wanting to reduce his own taxes. The reality is that a successful young businessman like Davis can afford his taxes a heck of a lot more than our senior citizens on fixed incomes, but he still cares about those senior citizens. Perrault apparently does not. Perrault owns no property in the city and thus is exempt from the tax burden he is imposing on others, including those senior citizens.

What a disgrace. Our city council is a three ring circus; you have Tyre always trying to channel Idi Amin, and Perrault constantly channeling Benedict Arnold. Tyre is part of that Sadler machine that sent the thugs to hang around outside and then inside Nick Fritz' restaurant to harass his customers and staff and then to go to his house to intimidate his children in a rotten scheme to force Fritz off the council. Perrault is the guy who ran on the Tax Cut Team, but then started palling around with tax-and-spend kingpin Tyre, and has now voted for a big TAX INCREASE. Perrault seems to be making himself into Tyre in whiteface.

Washingtonian, there is a term for politicians like Tyre, and that is Powerbully.

What is going on right now to rig the elections in California shows what an out of touch Democrat lackey that Thom Tillis is. Our elections are being corrupted and the SAVE America Act would help stop that process.
Commented: Sunday, June 7th, 2026 @ 1:54 pm By: Concerned Taxpayer
John, that is not the worst thing. They limited their search to career bureaucrats and shut out those with private sector management experience. Private sector managers strive for efficient cost-effective operations while career bureaucrats tend to be empire builders who care nothing about efficiency. They sought absolutely the wrong qualifications in a county manager, and , well, they found them.

While the far left likes to throw around the term "fascist", none of them seem to understand that fascism had a rigid economic doctrine, and today's left very often follows fascist rather than socialist economic doctrine. The climate alarmist movement is one particular example of that, and I have seen some aptly call it "eco-fascism".

Government putting its thumb on the scales is the opposite of capitalism. Government Diktat is the only thing that makes the Climate Industrial Complex function. It could not stand on its own two feet to compete under a free enterprise system.

You might want to learn more about what fascism really is before thinking that it just means having a dictator in charge. If you do, you will learn that the modern left's policies here in America are much closer to classical fascist economic doctrine than to classic socialist economic doctrine.

Will, neither you nor I are far left, but it is the far left that likes to throw around the term "fascist" without understanding what it actually means.

Well, NO, Will. The Green New Deal just reeks of fascist economics, NOT capitalism. It is all about government Diktat. Wind, solar, and other "green energy" would not exist without government subsidies, "portfolio standard" requirements of percentage of "green energy", and such. They are essential for expensive intermittent, unreliable "green energy".

The reason it is called "green energy" is all the green taxpayer and ratepayer money flowing into the pockets of the Climate Industrial Complex.

One has to understand the difference between socialist economics and fascist economics. In socialism, government controls the means of production. In fascist economics, the means of production technically stay in private hands but totally under government control.

Befuddled, you are correct that most of those "wood waste" so-called "renewable energy" plabnts actually burn whole trees. That leads to deforestation, and actually produces more CO2 than burning coal.

It is not just such plants located here. North Carolina trees are being cut down, ground up, and made into wood pelets which are shipped out through Morehead City, to be used in "wood waste" electric plants in Europe.
Commented: Sunday, May 24th, 2026 @ 8:12 pm By: Concerned Taxpayer
We are about to get another massive electric rate increase due to the politicians going along with the climate activists. NC's Green New Deal, HB951, and its climate provisions pushed by "woke" energy monopoly Duke Energy, is resulting in a 14% rate increase for those who buy directly from Duke. That increase will also hit those who buy from "electriCities" like Washington and Belhaven whose wholesale rates will also go up. Phil Berger rewrote HB951 in the Senate to use the same meghology as the EU's Green Deal, but with harsher terms than Europe. It seeks to eliminate cheap and reliable coal power and replace it with expensive and unrelaiable wind and solar.

Here's another one/ The Attorney General of North Carolina is paid $168K. Should we pay a Beaufort County manager tens of thousands of dollars MORE than that? The AG has to have a LAW degree which is a higher degree than a pathetic Masters of Public administration.
Commented: Friday, May 22nd, 2026 @ 3:53 pm By: Concerned Taxpayer
This dude will make more than a US Senator ($178K) and almost as much as the NC Governor ($203K). Is a county manager in little ole Beaufort County worth that much??
Commented: Thursday, May 21st, 2026 @ 5:34 pm By: Concerned Taxpayer
Taxpayers need to show up at both the city and county hearings on the budget / taxes. On the city council, we have two who promised us, and they need to be held to their promises. Did Brabo ever make a promise? On the county commission, we have three who vote for the taxpayers and four who have nothing but contempt for taxpayers - Rliberal RINOs andy Walker and Frankie Waters, and the two Democrats

What was done to take Nick Fritz off the board should shock the community to turn deciseviely against those responsible..

Mr. Wyman, the biggest issue for most citizens is cutting spending and taxes. We have been gouged by the Sadler regime and we need a change. I notice that you do not address taxes and spending and that concerns me. I concur about the importance of our 2nd Amendment rights, but I have seen too many liberals try to wrap themselves around that while supporting the rest of the liberal agenda.

When Perrault ran for council, he told us he was on the tax cut team. Now he seems to have switched teams to the tax-and-spend team, coached by Comrade Tyre. If Perrault is to have any future credibility, he needs a quick course correction back to the course he assured voters he would take. He has been lambasting his own team mate while buddying up to the coach of the opposing team. Can he spell B-E-N-E-D-I-C-T A-R-N-O-L-D ?

There have been hundreds of dire predictions by the climate alarmists that have already passed the time they were supposed to happen, but not a single one of them has ever come true. The climate alarmists have never been anything but liars and scaremongers. People should have figured that out after the Climategate emails were revealed because they showed them to be total scammers and liars.

Agreed, Washingtonian.

The Sadler candidate has emerged for the council seat. He is Roland Wyman, a liberal city politician who is friendly with the Sadler machine. Wyman can absolutely NOT br trusted on taxes. He is the polar opposite of Nick Fritz. Taxpayers need someone who will follow Fritz's mandate from voters on taxes and spending. Putting a tax and spend politician like Wyman in that seat would be spitting in the face of taxpayers and voters.

This is an absolute outrage to taxpayers. Did some bureaucrat not vet them properly or did the applicants lie on their application? Either way, somebody ought to be prosecuted in each one of these cases. Also the money should be clawed back from any state where this happens.

The rumblings I heard did not specify the nature of the threat, but if it were a possible boycott, a common tactic of the left, then beating a hasty retreat would be the path of least resistance.
Commented: Friday, May 1st, 2026 @ 6:24 pm By: Concerned Taxpayer
I have heard rumblings that some of the dark political forces in our city may have made threats against Fritz' business. Don't know if that is true, and whether or not it is true, I would expect Fritz to protect his business by denying it. Fritz defending that pair smacks of him trying to placate somebody for something, and that makes those rumblings even more believable.

Perrault letting himself get sucked into Trye's war with Bobby Roberson, the only insider in city government I trust, was the first sign of a problem. Tyre fanning the flames of a split between Davis and Perrault was the biggest problem, and both of them got suckered into that situation. Then they go and hire a career bureaucrat with a questionable history and pay him more than a US Senator to be a city manager of a town of under 10K population. That scoundrel Tyre has played them like a fiddle..
Commented: Friday, May 1st, 2026 @ 12:32 pm By: Concerned Taxpayer
The key test of this city council will be the tax cuts. Taxpayers need to see at least a 5 or 6 cent cut. A 1 to 3 cent cut would be only window dressing and this council would have failed.

I am concerned about Max Perrault being too chummy with the current leader of the corrupt tax-and-spend Sadler machine. What is going on there?

Rep. Cunningham's move makes perfect sense. The black population is much more highly impacted on jobs and housing by illegal aliens than the white population. What does not make sense is the other black legislators staying on the Democrat plantation on this issue.

Why is the city manager in a town of less than 10,000 people being paid more than a US Senator, a US Congressman, the Governor, the state Attorney General, and the other members of the Council of State??????? That is just obscene and a taxpayer ripoff.

Elected officials are the ones who are supposed to set policy, and the bureaucrats are the ones who are supposed to carry it out. If a bureaucrat talks about "defending democracy" he is getting out of his lane and into that of the elected officials. Our Washington elected officials need to tell their manager to CUT SPENDING and CUT TAXES and come out with a budget that does that.

Has these ever been a public vote to hire the city manager??????
Commented: Tuesday, April 21st, 2026 @ 1:39 pm By: Concerned Taxpayer
I concur that the vote on budget / taxes will be Perrault's last chance to get right with the voters who put him in office. After that, his defection to the dark side of Washington politics will be the end of his political career. He still has a chance to save it, but it is getting down to the short rows. The Sadler machine is a corrupt tax and spend monstrosity. Does he really want to align with that?

Tyre was clever in promoting a personality split between Davis and Perrault, but Perrault ought to have the brains to figure out that he is being used.
Commented: Saturday, April 18th, 2026 @ 11:51 am By: Concerned Taxpayer
How much is Washington paying it's new city manager? Also what about the County manager?

For comparison, a US Senator makes $174,000, the NC governor $165,000, and major Council of State officers like the NC Attorney General, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the State Treasurer, etc. make $146,000.

A city manager in Washington or a county manager in Beaufort County is a much lower level than any of those. So how much are they being paid?
Commented: Friday, April 17th, 2026 @ 3:24 pm By: Concerned Taxpayer
Wind and solar electricity means our rates will go up, as they already have thanks to Democrats and RINOs pushing this nonsense. It is the reason that wind and solar obsessed Germany pays three times the residential electric rates that we do. It is a financial disaster for ratepayers as well as an environmental disaster.

Carbon taxes in the United States is a wet dream of the Democrats. If they get back in power, our taxpayers will be socked with it here. Hooray for the Irish and the French before them in fighting this outrageous nonsense.
Commented: Thursday, April 16th, 2026 @ 1:07 pm By: Concerned Taxpayer
What Washington needed as a city manager was someone with a sharp pencil able to cut through all the bloat and waste, cut spending, and cut taxes. We need someone with a good track record of doing just that. Instead, they give us a guy who is clearly a bureaucrat's bureaucrat. That is what Washington does NOT need. We have had way too much spending under the previous regime and a lousy city manager who was a big part of the problem.

Tyre was also a big part of the problem that got us in this mess, and any elected official who kisses his ass is absolutely worthless.

This is all so sickening.
Commented: Friday, April 10th, 2026 @ 2:32 pm By: Concerned Taxpayer
This city manager seems even worse than the last one. Why is Perault teaming up with Tyre? Tyre is a hard core leftis and does not even really live in Washington.

Bobby Roberson is a straight up guy and a conservative Republican.
