Heavy Rain & Severe Weather Threat Tonight & Tomorrow | Eastern North Carolina Now

News Release:

    Our office continues to monitor an approaching weather system that will be bring heavy rains and the potential of a few strong / severe storms. The current forecast details for Beaufort County is as follows

    Rain

  • Rain chances will begin to increase after 4pm this afternoon, with light rain likely by 8pm. Rain chances will remain through sunrise Friday, with the heaviest rains expected between 4am and 4pm Thursday.
  • 1 1/2 to 2 inches of rain is expected for areas west of Blounts Creek and Bayview with areas east receiving 2 to 3 inches.

    Strong / Severe Storms

  • While the threat of tornados and hail have diminished in recent forecast updates, a few strong to severe storms are remain possible. The greatest potential strong to severe storms is forecasted to occur between midnight tonight and 10am tomorrow morning.

    We encourage everyone to ensure that you, your family, friends and neighbors have a means of being notified of any watches and / or warnings that may be issued during the overnight hours. (Weather alert phone apps, weather radios, etc.)

    Please see our final attached briefing regarding heavy rain tonight and Thursday, as well as overnight severe weather potential. The primary risk is damaging winds, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. A Slight Risk of severe weather remains for all but the Outer Banks.
