With the elections out of the way, pollsters can now focus on the important questions, like which pie North Carolinians prefer to consume after their Thanksgiving turkey. And the numbers are in, with pumpkin pie being the state's clear favorite for the second year in a row.

The High Point University Survey Research Center asked 1,015 respondents Nov. 10 - 17 the simple question about their favorite pie, and 25% responded with pumpkin.

The next most popular answer was pecan, with 17%, but seeing as the poll had a 3.2% credibility interval, sweet potato (16%) and apple (15%) were virtually tied for second.

Last year, the HPU poll also found that pumpkin was the favorite, but the order for the second, third, and fourth varied, with apple and pecan tied at 18% and sweet potato at 14%.

Another 28% answered with more unique options outside of the big four, though, including "chocolate (9%), cherry (5%), blueberry (2%), peach (3%) and strawberry (2%)."

HPU's political science chair, Dr. Martin Kifer, was the director of the poll.

According to the release, "The data is weighed toward population estimates for age, gender, race/ethnicity and education based on U.S. Census numbers for North Carolina."
