The Self-important Self-interest of Four Beaufort County Commissioners | Eastern NC Now

Another perfect example of why we can't get out of the hole that was dug by the elitist mentality of BCC-100 and former EDC Director.

Another perfect example of why we can't get out of the hole that was dug by the elitist mentality of BCC-100 and former EDC Director. Some Commissioners are consumed with self-importance, imagined power and arrogance. They consistently ignore and disrespect the expertise that some Commissioners bring to the table. In doing so, they've got nobody else to blame but themselves. These negative traits stand in the way of progress.

Exactly who was behind the Commissioners pushing for locating the jail in the Industrial Park? Who, of the elitist BCC-100, was salivating at the prospect of getting the building Contract or, maybe to avoid calling attention, getting the subcontract. Why were some Commissioners so intent on putting the jail in the Industrial Park? I can guarantee you that whoever was behind the push doesn't have egg on their face, like our Commissioners who voted for the Industrial Park location?

Did any of these controlling figureheads even bother to read any of the legal documents that apply to the use of the Industrial Park? How many will actually admit that they did not know of the dual ownership of the Ind. Park - 55% County and 45% City?

Of all the building and business decisions that occurred in the past 10 years, how many times was the City involved in the decision-making process? Or should we concentrate of the unhealthy degree of power of the BCC-100 members who sat on the Board of Commissioners and the powerful influence of a self-promoting EDC Director?

This revelation of failure to involve the co-owners of the Industrial Park should be a wake-up call for those elected individuals and also the voters who elected them.

Our economic future has been in the hands of self-promoting civic leaders, both influential and influenced, who are threatened by the need for transparency and in some cases, honesty.

These economic blunders continue to destroy whatever progress we try to make. WAKE UP. Stop your selfishness, thoroughly read documents that you vote on, don't rely on others to tell you how to vote, don't be afraid to ask questions because if you don't, the voters will take you down at the next election.
