Youth vote in France swings to populist / nationalist anti-immigration right | Eastern NC Now

Voters between 18 and 24 in France are swinging heavily to the populist / nationalist anti-immigration right according to a new poll from the prominent European polling firm IPSOS.  Polling for the upcoming election for the EU parliament election later this year found a nine point gain among young voters for Marine LePen's anti-immigration National Rally, putting them in first place among young voters, and thirteen points ahead of President Macron's globalists who were in second place.

Among young voters, an even more strident populist / nationalist anti-immigration party, Reconquest, had 3% of the youth vote and the traditional conservative Les Republicains had 6%.  The National Rally was at 31%.

National Rally's 13 point lead over Macron's globalists among the youth vote matched the results of another poll that gave National Rally a similar  13 point lead over Macron's party among all voters.

Since younger voters have historically trended more toward the left, this trend shows how much the immigration issue has impacted younger voters.  One remembers Churchill's famous quote that "if you are not a socialist at 20, you have no heart; if you are not a conservative at 40, you have no brain."
