Trump border policies are working

ENCNow

The policies of the Trump administration are cutting the backlog in our immigration courts.  For the first time in 20 years, that backlog has been reduced.  When Trump took office, the backlog in immigration court was 4.2 million cases.  In six months, it has been cut to 3.8 million cases.

Part of that has come from streamlining the process, but the biggest factor has been securing the border to reduce the number of new cases coming in.  Under Biden, there were 150,000 new cases coming in each month, while the courts processed only 60,000, building the backlog.  Under Trump only 29,000 new cases are coming in each month, and the court is handling 65,000.  With the border secure, most of the new cases under Trump come from illegal aliens who were already in the country instead of from new border crossers, as they had been under Biden.

What would cut down the backlog even more is to follow the asylum treaties that do not require asylum claims to even be considered when the migrant enters from a safe country. Mexico and Canada are considered safe countries, so all migrants who entered through either of those borders should have their asylum claims summarily dismissed. This is what Hungary does through a very quick procedure in front of a magistrate.
