Commented On Big Lies
I have been busy the past week getting ready for meetings at work so I had not read any of the articles here recently. Last night, January 14th, the Board of Commissioners held a special called meeting to vote on this land issue. When it was over the City of Washington got their cake and ate it too.
The City was paid $125,000 an acre for some really horrible low wet land. They also got to keep the park they have behind the old PS Jones School. The county could have just given them the park and the City would have been happy, but we let them have the park and paid them $500,000 of your tax dollars too. I thought this land swap issue was a no brainer. Everyone I have spoken to said the same thing as me, swap the land. The City has already put a park and bathrooms on it. They have effectively taken control of it, why not make it formal? |

Commented On What's happened to Tandy Dunn
The county continues to spend money on stupid stuff. 4.7 million for wi-fi water meters, 2 million for a building they sold for 1 million, $190,000 for a COVID trailer, and on and on and on. So we spend money stupidly. My grammer isn't always the best but hopefully you get what I mean.

Commented On Reflections on Memorial Day
“Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the many brave men and women in uniform who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our cherished freedoms and liberties. Although we will never be able to repay the debt of gratitude we owe to our nation’s fallen heroes, we must honor our obligation to care for their loved ones who bear the personal burden of their sacrifice.”

Commented On D-Day: A Time to Remember
My comment was part of a larger article not yet published on BCN. Just a quick point of clarification:
I in no way feel my experience was in any way comparable to those who stormed the beaches of Normandy or the Pacific. My comment is reflective of combat any troupes who are embarking on a dangerous and possibly deadly mission. I guess my point was that each soldier has his own individual personal Gordian Knot regardless of the number involved in the assault and each deals with it in his very own unique way. |

Commented On D-Day: A Time to Remember
Though my war was 24 years after D-day, I remember the exact feeling of flying to a landing zone in a Huey instead of a Landing Craft on the beach. The technology was different but the anxiety was most likely the same. I can only imagine the feelings of those young men in the landing craft, but I think I have some understanding of their thoughts and fears as they wait:
"There is an eerie calm that descends on young men when they wait for the disembark order. In just a few seconds, you will meet either your maker or your enemy. You are highly trained, well practiced, fully supplied, and motivated. There is no noise among the brothers to your right or left. They like you are lost in their thoughts of home, girlfriends, or whatever. I would be tempted to say that there is loneliness in the crowd, but that would not be accurate. There is a lifetime ahead if you are lucky to be lonely. There is only a sense of purpose and one final equipment check, and then they flip the switch. It is similar to stepping from total darkness into bright sunlight or stepping in to total darkness from bright sunlight. All the planning and preparation give way and you are dependent on a few eighteen to twenty year old's who you may not ever have liked in civilian life but today you put your life in their hands and vice a versa. Here you meet your destiny. The only reward for this is that you will survive to do it all over again and perhaps years later you will have the satisfaction of knowing you did your duty." Commented On A Memorial Day Introduction: Tony Meet Eddy Schultz
Thanks, Lynne for the link to the interview. It provides a personal real time memory of Eddy during this Memorial Day season. For the readers, below is a picture of Lynne and Doc Ken Blakely who was also present at the firefight at Hoc Mon, Vietnam. Ken presently lives in Arizona but took the time to make contact with Lynne on a family visit back to California.
If you look at the link in the article showing the KIA and WIA, you will see: HHC WIA:Medic PFC Ken" "Doc" Blakely who was wounded while tending to his troopers. Ken has made it his mission to minister to his personal Band of Brothers (To Ken every veteran and relative is included in his ministry) and their relatives. Just as he did in Vietnam, he answered the call for "Medic" and provides the support 48 plus years later to all who are in need.. Here are his comments regarding his visit with Lynne: "I had the honor of visiting the niece of Ed Schultz who was more like a sister to Ed as they we close in age. Ed got killed in Hoc Mon 3-4-68 with Charlie Co as we in Delta Co fought for our lives as well. Lynne Higgins has written a book about her Uncle and tells his story in "The Box" it can be purchased at Amazon.com. A wonderful visit .. Thank you Lynne God bless you and your family. A fellow medic and friend was Ed's medic Andy Wahrenbrock..a great medic." Doc Ken ![]() |

Commented On Let's Get It Right!
Don, may I respectfully ask: Are there more school age students residing in Richland Township then are enrolled at Aurora, and if so where are those "extra" students enrolled and why? I note that you also do not address the bus rides this decision to close Snowden will impose on young students and what impact that will have on retaining what few students are left in BCS in that area. Finally, why has the BCS staff not worked with Nutrien to make the local school(s) more attractive to potential employees as well as their duty to contribute to community development rather than exclusively to the short-run benefit of the company? Nutrien could/should help development in southeastern Beaufort County. Do you not agree? If so, what has BCS done in partnering with them doing that? And if not, why not? How much has Cheeseman worked with Nutrien? What has BCS done is simply foster non-public school development in Richland Township. Bath should beware of the same thing happening on the north side of the river in the future. Nutrien owns alot of land near you.

Commented On Abusive taxes, government housing and broadband
You reckon this Welfare Housing is going to be built next to Cypress Landing? Understand there's sewer on Old Blounts Creek Road and you see BATS buses running on that road. Now tell me, is the goal here to make the houses in Cypress Landing more affordable? How much more hypocritical can these clowns be?

Commented On An open response to Larry Britt on Al Klemm's betrayal of conservative government in Beaufort County
What a wonderful opportunity Mr. Britt has opened up to readdress Al as the self serving boob he is.
Instead of lying low and letting the dust settle, Britt has put the target right back on Al. For the next two years Al should be objective #1....If Jay reruns in 2014 then Jay and Al will be fighting for the Britt wing votes of the RINO party...while Ed Booth sweeps the Democrats and Stan works the right and middle. Long story short, Al has no friends and even his old allies, i.e., Jay and Britt are now rivals. |

Commented On June 6, 1944: A Hallowed Day
Very well done, Stan. These heroes were our fathers, uncles and grandfathers. Those who survived this and all the other battles to preserve freedom came home to resume lives in our communities and, for my generation, were our teachers and role models. I have learned so much from the members of the Greatest Generation. Unfortunately, we are losing them at a rapid rate…and we will not see their equal when they pass. God bless them all, and God bless America!
