True conservatives need to realize that just because we won an election doesn't mean we the war. This would have passed if the conservatives had been deployed. Phone calls by wealthy self centered babyboomer elites won this one because they organized and had the phones ringing off the hook. We have to play smarter.

Should of passed. Just shows people that they don’t care about the people, only the power that we entrusted them with. Citizens will definitely remember this on Election Day.

Thank you for correcting me for my lack of understanding of your actions and statements. I know you from your appearances on the Commissioner's Meetings and your statements on this site. You don't know me! I am not a liberal progressive using tactics "right out of the ultra liberal socialist play book" or the "liberal play book". I am also not an ultra conservative who hides behind the same fear mongering as the ultra left. I am also not intimidated by the rhetoric of either side. President Trump is my president, and his policies by and large reflect my vision of the direction America should be headed. He makes some outrages statements at times, and that is frustrating to me. But he is getting most of his Agenda for America done.
My hope is that you could concentrate on all the people of Beaufort County, conservative and liberal, republicans and democrats and unaffiliated to get done what is the best for our county without labeling them. Once elected you are a representative of all the people not just the "party". Thank-you and I look forward to all of my commissioners working together to keep Beaufort County Great!

Hey mr. richardson. What is a wizzard?
And, since you didn't ask any questions, that makes you as worthy of your criticism as everyone else. And while I am at it, just what have you done in 14 years to help the citizens of Beaufort County. You have contributed to the 22 percent increase in taxes by not offering
a. a better alternative or
b. a compromise.
You have duped your supporters into thinking you have tried to save them money on their taxes, when all you've done is cast a no vote to issues that were going to pass anyway and you knew it. You can't take credit for protecting your supporter's money when you have not provided wise financial counsel other than "I am not voting for that, and I'll tell you why." And your why is simply that you don't want to, or you don't like the person(s) who submitted the idea or it looks like you voted to not raise taxes.
I for one, see you as the sham you are. And I hope the new board of commissioners is not foolish enough to elect you as the new chairman. OR maybe they should and then your tenure as commissioner will come to an abrupt end as your total lack of leadership and wisdom will be further exposed.

Wow! Don Cox had the "nerve" to call someone lazy? He is one of the laziest men I have ever seen. He stays on facebook the majority of the day trying to get some recognition and praise for himself through his constant food post, etc.

Don Cox is one of the most negative individuals I have ever encountered. He is an egotistical, know-it-all, but he doesn't know much at all in reality.

Unfortunately Hood's math needs some help. A $5.6 mil increase of a $67.5 mil budget is 8.3% not 14.3%. Note, inflation is now running 9.1% and county government is not exempt. Energy, fuel, materials and all other costs are subject to inflation also. Taxes were not increased. Also note that almost 1/3 of our budget is just a passthrough from the State to the Department of Social Services and the Health Department.

Cutting off one's nose to spite one's own face" is an expression used to describe a needlessly self-destructive overreaction. To do someone that is meant to harm someone else but also harms the person who does it. Don't cut off your nose to spite your own face" is a warning against acting out of pique, or against pursuing revenge in a way that would damage oneself more than the object of one's anger.

There are some Republicans seeking to cast a revenge vote and now going to vote on the democrat ticket because their candidate lost in the primary. Now casting a vote for a candidate of the party of Biden, Pelosi , Schumer, Roy Cooper and our local democrat leaders out of revenge. You know no matter who loses as those in the primary, whether it be Rogerson or Hammonds their lives will continue on as ours will. To cast a revenge vote is “cutting off your nose to spite your own face”.

Revenge is sweet they say for only a short time while the consequences will effect us for years.

Stan Deatherage I would encourage your readers to look up the interview on the internet with Fox News! They report we decide. I am a conservative Republican and I support the core values of the Republican Party!

I would like to comment on one of the questions in this poll regarding HB 370.

Speaking of left wing dreams we have a sheriff of Beaufort County that said on Fox News it’s a sheriffs right to hold or not hold a criminal illegal for ICE. He guesses they the sheriffs are doing what’s in their heart he said. I say A sheriff’s right over the safety and welfare of the citizens of this county, our state, our country they are to serve and protect?? Isn’t that in direct contrast on what Trump is doing? Absolutely!! Trump called out Cooper for vetoing the bill and our sheriff saying it’s a sheriffs right! What is going on here?
Side note- as of now holding criminal illegals for ICE is a request to the sheriffs- the N.C. state representatives voted and passed a bill called HB 370 requiring sheriffs to hold criminal illegals for ICE and not release them back on the streets and in our counties. The democrat governor vetoed it. And this was our sheriffs response. He didn’t stand against Cooper vetoing the bill instead he said its a sheriffs right to not hold them. It’s on Fox News video. You can look it up! Unbelievable and wrong!!!
And might I add as long as this is only a request let’s say a criminal illegal is released back on the street by a sheriff that saids he will work with ICE although just a request and he releases a criminal illegal back on the street that commits another crime perhaps of a violent nature. The sheriff can then say well it was only a request and he slipped through by accident. I didn’t have to hold them. It’s not a thou shalt it’s only a request!!
A sheriffs right over the safety of the citizens of our county. Need I say more? Something is not right!!!
