News Release:

WASHINGTON, D.C.     Last week, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) was commended by national grassroots organization "In God We Trust" for his work to pass H.R. 343, a bill he introduced to protect military chaplains' right to close prayers outside of a religious service according to the dictates of their own consciences. In God We Trust works to protect religious heritage in the United States and applauds Congressman Jones for his dedication to this bill. In a statement, the organization thanked Congressman Jones "for his efforts to protect the rights of military chaplains in the U.S. Armed Forces."

"I am honored to receive the commendation of In God We Trust and Bishop Council Nedd as we work to make sure that every military chaplain's right to the free exercise of religion under the First Amendment of the Constitution is not prohibited," said Congressman Jones. "We need to make sure that military chaplains can follow their consciences to close a prayer outside of a religious service by getting H.R. 343 passed into law."

Congressman Jones introduced H.R. 343 in January 2013, and it was included in the National Defense Authorization Act the House of Representatives passed for FY 2015. It awaits consideration in the Senate.
