Arizona is latest state to ban teaching of Critical Race Theory | Eastern NC Now

why is similar bill stuck in Senate in NC?

ENCNow

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has signed a bill into law banning the teaching of Critical Race Theory in the state, making them the seventh state to do so.  Five others, like Arizona have done so through bills passed in their state legislature, and one, Florida, has done so by action of its state Board of Education.

Ducey also signed into law a companion bill that fines local school boards $5,000 per occurrence if they are caught  teaching Critical Race Theory.

"We should be focused on bringing people together, not pushing them apart," said state Rep. Michelle Udall (R-AZ).  "Critical Race Theory will do nothing but increase divisiveness in our communities, which I think we can all agree we should try to prevent."

In North Carolina, legislation to ban teaching of Critical Race Theory has passed the state House but is stalled in the state Senate.  That has not stopped the Brunswick County Board of Education from voting unanimously to ban teaching of Critical Race Theory in county schools.
