My heart cried when I heard the news about Jimmy. He was such a help to me when my husband was on his death bed. Jimmy spent more than an hour praying over Jim as he lie in the bed dying! He helped me in more ways than I can express. After hearing his sermon last Sunday, I was thankful that I have the privilege to know such a great man of God. Most people, upon hearing the diagnosis, would curse God and question the reason. Jimmy, instead, praised God for all the blessing that God gave to him throughout his life. What an inspiration!

A Memorial Day Introduction: Tony Meet Eddy Schultz

My comment was part of a larger article not yet published on BCN. Just a quick point of clarification:

I in no way feel my experience was in any way comparable to those who stormed the beaches of Normandy or the Pacific. My comment is reflective of combat any troupes who are embarking on a dangerous and possibly deadly mission. I guess my point was that each soldier has his own individual personal Gordian Knot regardless of the number involved in the assault and each deals with it in his very own unique way.
(commented on June 6th, 2018 @ 2:23 pm)
Though my war was 24 years after D-day, I remember the exact feeling of flying to a landing zone in a Huey instead of a Landing Craft on the beach. The technology was different but the anxiety was most likely the same. I can only imagine the feelings of those young men in the landing craft, but I think I have some understanding of their thoughts and fears as they wait:

"There is an eerie calm that descends on young men when they wait for the disembark order. In just a few seconds, you will meet either your maker or your enemy. You are highly trained, well practiced, fully supplied, and motivated. There is no noise among the brothers to your right or left. They like you are lost in their thoughts of home, girlfriends, or whatever. I would be tempted to say that there is loneliness in the crowd, but that would not be accurate. There is a lifetime ahead if you are lucky to be lonely. There is only a sense of purpose and one final equipment check, and then they flip the switch. It is similar to stepping from total darkness into bright sunlight or stepping in to total darkness from bright sunlight. All the planning and preparation give way and you are dependent on a few eighteen to twenty year old's who you may not ever have liked in civilian life but today you put your life in their hands and vice a versa. Here you meet your destiny. The only reward for this is that you will survive to do it all over again and perhaps years later you will have the satisfaction of knowing you did your duty." Tony Adams

Thanks, Lynne for the link to the interview. It provides a personal real time memory of Eddy during this Memorial Day season. For the readers, below is a picture of Lynne and Doc Ken Blakely who was also present at the firefight at Hoc Mon, Vietnam. Ken presently lives in Arizona but took the time to make contact with Lynne on a family visit back to California.

If you look at the link in the article showing the KIA and WIA, you will see: HHC WIA:Medic PFC Ken" "Doc" Blakely who was wounded while tending to his troopers.

Ken has made it his mission to minister to his personal Band of Brothers (To Ken every veteran and relative is included in his ministry) and their relatives. Just as he did in Vietnam, he answered the call for "Medic" and provides the support 48 plus years later to all who are in need..

Here are his comments regarding his visit with Lynne:

"I had the honor of visiting the niece of Ed Schultz who was more like a sister to Ed as they we close in age. Ed got killed in Hoc Mon 3-4-68 with Charlie Co as we in Delta Co fought for our lives as well. Lynne Higgins has written a book about her Uncle and tells his story in "The Box" it can be purchased at Amazon.com. A wonderful visit .. Thank you Lynne God bless you and your family. A fellow medic and friend was Ed's medic Andy Wahrenbrock..a great medic." Doc Ken

Agree with most of your analysis. I think the interesting thing right now is the list of frontrunners for the GOP. You've got "the Donald", Cruz, Carson, and Fiorino. Three are non-politicians and the only politician is a non-establishment man. I thought that Bush and Rubio were thrown softballs in this debate by Fox. I was disappointed we didn't see a lot of policy discussion on immigration, Obamacare, the Iran deal, etc... Just a whole lot of "gotcha" questions unless your name was Rubio or Bush. The treatment of Carson, Walker, Cruz and Paul as a whole was to marginalize them. As far as Megyn Kelly goes, I used to watch her show...the key being used to...I think she was too biased and too busy trying to make herself look good.

Republican Legislators in North Carolina should demand that opposition speakers should be heard in full. If the Republican Committee Chairs won'[t permit this then: (1) their constituents should replace them in the next election and (2) the Republican caucus should invite opposition speakers who are heard in full, or (3) Republican legislators who want to know the truth should hold events where opposition speakers are heard.
(commented on July 4th, 2017 @ 11:29 am)
Amen, Jeff, and thank you.

Except my concern is not with any Amendments which could be proposed at an Article V convention. My concern is that the Delegates will almost certainly invoke that "self-evident right" claimed in the 2nd paragraph of our Declaration of Independence to throw off the Constitution we have and set up a new Constitution (with a new mode of ratification) which creates an entirely new government.

That is what the delegates to the federal convention of 1787 did. Even though their instructions from the Continental Congress and their States were to propose Amendments to the Articles of Confederation (our First Constitution), the Delegates ignored their instructions and drafted a new Constitution which created a new government.

Furthermore, the new Constitution had a new [and easier] mode of ratification: Whereas the Articles of Confederation required that Amendments to the Articles be approved by the Continental Congress and ALL of the then 13 States; the new Constitution provided at Article VII thereof that it would be ratified by only 9 States.

And in Federalist Paper No. 40 (15th para), James Madison, Father of our Constitution) specifically invoked this "self-evident right" to throw off one government and set up a new one - as justification for what they did at the federal "amendments" convention of 1787.

The Left is well aware of this! It's the Right who stuck their heads in the sand. The Leftists' proposed Constitution for the NewStates of America is ratified by a National Referendum. All they need to get their Constitution in place is an Article V convention where it can be proposed. And it will be easy to get it ratified: whoever controls the voting machines will determine the outcome.

So George Soros and the Marxists have the progressive Constitution they want in place by the year 2020; and the globalist Bush/Cruz/Council on Foreign Relations/Koch Brothers?/ conspirators need a new Constitution to move us into the North American Union.

Everyone on the Left and the phony "Right" is well aware of this!

But they don't want Republican Legislators to know it. That's why they push for hearings on applications for an Article V convention with no public notice - or limit opposition speakers to 1 or 2 minutes. That's why they smear and revile the honest Patriots who tell the truth and prove it.

Interesting article, now in fairness how about writing an article using the Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and all they do to promote harmony. That should provide some interesting reading.

Enjoyed this post. One of my dear friends, Mike Callahan of High Point, was also a photographer during his tour. A few years ago, someone (I can't remember who) put together a photo exhibit of Vietnam photos from Mike and several others, and it was awesome! God bless all of you guys, and thank you for your service.

Very well done, Stan. These heroes were our fathers, uncles and grandfathers. Those who survived this and all the other battles to preserve freedom came home to resume lives in our communities and, for my generation, were our teachers and role models. I have learned so much from the members of the Greatest Generation. Unfortunately, we are losing them at a rapid rate…and we will not see their equal when they pass. God bless them all, and God bless America!

I was actually one of the unaffiliated at one time. I understand why so many are unaffiliated. I do believe there should be more women on the county commissioner board. And I am not against the unaffiliated. We just need honest people with a integrity to run for the commissioners to keep our town safe and growing in the right direction.

“Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the many brave men and women in uniform who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our cherished freedoms and liberties. Although we will never be able to repay the debt of gratitude we owe to our nation’s fallen heroes, we must honor our obligation to care for their loved ones who bear the personal burden of their sacrifice.”

Thanks for the comments and thanks to Stan for the automatic notification when someone comments on one of my older articles. At 77 years old, I realize that I am probably far out of touch with the various local venues for aspiring entertainers, but I can’t help but wonder if there are still troubadours touring the country in small bars, VFW clubs, or Bowling Alley entertainment rooms. My time on the beer trail was full of such joints. It was a time when entertainers drove in cars, Greyhound, or trains, or parhaps with a guitar strapped over their shoulder and a thumb in the air from town to town honing their talent. Many never made it to stardom but a few like those mentioned in the comments did and we are all the better for it. As Stan said, Gordon created songs that will never be forgotten until we too pass. There are those who say, like the old blues singers, you can’t write a sad or inspirational song until you have lived a sad or inspirational life. I don’t know if that is true but thank God that these songs were written.
Thanks also to Andrea Hayward Nickerson for your parent’s participation in those days of yore. Atlanta is a city that doesn’t hold much to maintaining historical buildings. I have not been by the old Bistro site in years, but I do occasionally visit The Varsity -1928- which is not far from there. I will be sure to drive by and see what a atrocity has been built on that lot.

I received a private message with some corrections to this article. See Below: Thanks to Sharon Powel for this correction. I have removed her Email Address for privacy reasons.

Hi, Bobby!
I just ran across this article by you , and wish to thank you! There are, however some discrepancies that I would love to let you know about. I know that you don't won't be editing this article, but, I have spent many, many years straightening out misunderstandings on behalf of the Hall's actual owners. The club was never owned by Jack Tarver, but he did run the club under a management contract, as did Alex Cooley prior to Jack's tenure. The owners' names are Robert Dulong, and Maurice Ehrlich. Bob is still around, but Mo passed away a couple of years ago.
The reason we closed was that Broadview Plaza was bought by a development company which determined that a disco would be better placed in our location and did not renew our lease. We had to scramble to find a new location, and we staff members worked hard to get us moved. I would be happy to help with any future articles, or to answer any questions you may have.

Liz Partrick's love and appreciation of The Old North State is vividly shown in these images. These important yet fading places remind us of a simpler time. Imagine the sunrises there, the sunsets, hardworking people taking care of themselves, their families, their friends and neighbors, many living off the land, beloved pets who shared these places, lives that began and ended within these walls. Thank you, Liz, for sharing these treasures with us. Keep traveling old dusty roads, with your canine companions by your side, doing what you love best, and reminding us all the while of the beautiful place we call home.
