Italy has a parliamentary election this year, and has a caretaker government under globalist technocrat Mario Draghi in power in the interim since the previous center-left coalition collapsed last year.  Draghi's government is pushing a draconian enlargement of its "green pass" vaccine passports but is encountering strong opposition from both of the parties which are in the lead in the polls for the upcoming election.

Election polls are showing a neck and neck race for first place in the parliamentary election between Senator Matteo Salvini's anti-immigration populist / nationalist right Lega and Senator Giorgia Meloni's ultra conservative Brothers of Italy, with the center-left Democratic Party a distant third.  Lega and the Brothers of Italy are in a right of center coalition that also includes former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's traditional conservative Forza Italia.  The three party coalition has a wide lead in the polls for securing a parliamentary majority.

The Brothers of Italy turned down an invitation to participate in Draghi's caretaker government when it was formed, and has consistently and loudly denounced Draghi's Covid restrictions.  Lega, although taking part in the caretaker government, has joined the vocal opposition to Draghi's latest Covid restrictions and mandates.

Italians have been holding mass demonstrations for months against Draghi's "green pass" vaccine passports and have sporatically shut down railway stations, ports, and airports in the process.  Italy's largest seaport at Trieste was shut down for weeks with its unions striking to support the vaccine passport protests and joining other protesters to block entrances to the port, until the government used water cannon and tear gas to clear the protesters.
