Buckingham Palace Releases First Statement from His Majesty The King | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Buckingham Palace released its first statement Thursday, not from Queen Elizabeth II but from His Majesty The King, King Charles III, following news of the monarch's death. She was 96.

    In a statement from the royal household shared on Twitter, the King, formerly known as Prince Charles, spoke about his mother's death, which was announced Thursday and how the country and the world would mourn the late Queen's passing.

    Under a headline that read, "A statement from His Majesty The King at the time of the Queen's death," the message said, "The death of my beloved, Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family."

    "We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother," it added. "I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world."

    "During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held," the statement concluded.

    The statement was released shortly after the palace announced that the monarch passed away Thursday, as The Daily Wire previously reported.

    "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon," the message on the royal website read. "The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow. Thursday, 8 September 2022."

    The Queen recently celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in June, marking her 70 years on the throne. The celebration also made her the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

    Initial reports surfaced on Thursday that royal family members were traveling to the queen's castle in Balmoral, Scotland, to be by the monarch's bedside amid reports that doctors were "concerned" about her health.
