Wind turbines near the Garzweiler open pit mine in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, run by German energy giant RWE, is being removed to make way for more lignite exploitation.

What is even more interesting is that the German Finance Minister has called for allowing fracking to allow Germany to get more gas. Finance Minister Christian Lindner is a member of the only right of center party, the Free Democrats (FPD) in the present coalition. His party was just wiped out in the state election in the important state of Lower Saxony due to its national alignment with the leftist coalition government. Lindner seems to be wanting to put some daylight between the FDP and its coalition partners, the Social Democrats and Greens. The latter, however, would probably rather have Germans freeze than to allow fracking. www.breitbart.com
