I believe there's some misdirected anger here in Mr. Clifton's essay. To prove it, just consider the following questions.

Did Goodwin oppose Obamacare's federal insurance intervention? Yes.

Did he work with GOP legislative leaders as they fought Obamacare in court? Yes, as far as I can tell.

Did he support the positions of the insurance agents in our towns as they fought various Obamacare provisions? Yes.

Did he follow state laws written in opposition to Obamacare by the current legislature? Yes.

And, did he take a position that helps insurance companies be able to resurrect previously-canceled NC insurance policies, if they wanted, and help this state's residents who are harmed by Obamacare? Yes, according to the news last week, and including on the Fox news network.

Doesn't the position he took in seeking uncanceled policies actually undermine Obamacare? Yes.

And didn't he recover over $156,000,000 for citizens harmed by Obamacare, money that was sent to the policyholders back from an insurance company? Yes.

Your original headline, "ObamaCare: While NC fiddles, other states carry on fight to protect residents" and the original post make it sound like our insurance commissioner is doing nothing to protect residents. That is far, far from the truth. Many states aren't doing as much as our commissioner of insurance is.

So what is Mr. Clifton's beef with the state insurance commissioner?

As far as I can tell, though, with the vitriol in this Daily Haymaker post, it appears that the only thing wrong with Insurance Commissioner Goodwin is that he is a Democrat. If you're going to oppose him for his voter registration, please don't gin up some false accusations against him. Just admit that you oppose him because of his party registration, regardless of what his policy positions and record are. Otherwise, it only makes our state Republican Party look petty and dishonest.

These are things Beaufort County readers need to know.

John Latham: I have no idea who you are, and have no desire to know you. But before you go running your mouth about something know nothing about, you should just keep it shut!!! But I will take a minute to enlighten you on a few facts. Julie Ann Harris is a lier, and a theif, plan and simple with no reguards to anyone but herself!!! She has not lived there 14 years. She did not have kennels in her yard until just a couple of years ago. In her deed it clearly states that she is not to operate a business from her home, have animals that disturb her neighbors and many other stated restrections. She was aware of these rules when she signed her deed to buy her property. She has no sanitary facilities to store or discard the animal waste, so she dumps it in the woods of an ajoining lot that does not belong to her, and the owner lives far away and know nothing about it. So why don't you come and smell it awhile for yourself....Now if you have any other opinons that you want to voice, come voice them in person to the people that have to live next to this crap and noise.

It is good that you are getting serious about tax reform BUT, the flat tax is just another form of income tax. Take the power and the opportunity for abuse away from government. Replace the income tax, flat tax with a consumption tax. Collect the revenue needed to run the government at the point of sale. Retailers are already doing it for state taxes just expand to include Federal tax collection. That way there are no tax filing requirements, Get the government out of our personal finances all together

#3 in the hand of Orange County... is concern enough for me to put out a for sale sign(as if there were not enough already).

#7 leaves the door open...I suppose this is is to be used as an rounding error should the forecast uptick does not proceed as planned, but leaving a door open is never a good idea when so many are asleep and hardly stir as new taxes come in.
