Three weeks ago, Gov. Cooper told North Carolinians that he would announce their selection of one of three back-to-school options on July 1. For the most part, teachers were cool with that.

The evening before the announcement, Cooper's press office announced that Cooper would delay his much-anticipated decision.

A few teachers are spouting lines like "Cooper doesn't control the virus" and "Cooper is going where the science and data tell him to go." Most are angry, and they have every right to be. While the traditional calendar school year will begin in mid-August, teachers in year-round schools are scheduled to start their school year in the next few weeks.
