Uptown Greenville Names Meredith Hawke Dzeko Executive Director | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Meredith Hawke Dzeko has been named Executive Director of Uptown Greenville, the downtown development organization of Greenville that exists to promote quality cultural, residential, and economic growth.

    "We are excited to announce Meredith's move to a permanent role as executive director," said Sharif Hatoum, chairman of the Uptown Greenville Board of Directors. "Meredith brings energy and commitment to our organization to lead our merchants and community while achieving the mission. Bringing together residents, merchants, and community partners to work together by focusing on public and private resources to promote, maintain, and enhance a safe, economically vibrant, and welcoming Downtown district. Her relationship with the merchants and experience with the organization will be critical to the long-term success and continued revitalization of the city's center."

    Dzeko has been with Uptown Greenville for four years serving as the events and branding director and most recently interim executive director. Under Dzeko's leadership, the organization has worked to restructure to be more merchant-focused. Additionally, the Uptown team has navigated a global pandemic while working to continuously promote district merchants through pop-up events and social media campaigns.

    "I am both humbled and thrilled by the opportunity to continue the growth in the heart of our city," Meredith Dzeko said. "I am passionate about this work and the results it brings. It is exciting to be able to help facilitate the growth, development, and investments in our district, all of which make Uptown a great place to live, work, and play.     As Executive Director of Uptown Greenville, Dzeko will be responsible for the leadership of the organization which includes organizational strategies, district planning, management, and operations while working alongside partners to support growth efforts.

    In recent years, the central business district has seen a 400% increase in the residential population, and welcomed over 710 new jobs, resulting in over $800 million in public and private investments.
