Ukraine sinks flagship of Russian Black Sea Fleet | Eastern NC Now

The Russian cruiser Moskva, flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, has been hit by two Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship missiles and sunk.  The cruiser carried a crew of over 500.  Russian media admitted "an explosion on board" and heavy damage.  Sources from the Russian mercenary Wagner Group, often called Putin's private army, said the ship had rolled over and sunk.  Ukraine released video of their missile hits.

The Neptune is a Ukrainian designed anti-ship missile that is an improvement over older Soviet technology on which it is based.  The UK has recently said it will supply Ukraine with more advanced high velocity anti-ship missiles.

UPDATE:  There was some dispute about whether the ship has sunk.  Russia said the heavily damaged ship was still afloat, with the surviving crew evacuated, and being towed back to port, but then said it had sunk in a storm while under tow.  The rest of Russia's Black Sea fleet has moved 80 miles off the Ukrainian coast to be out of range of shore fired Neptune missiles.  However the Neptune has a range of 170 miles and hit this ship while it was 60 miles off the coast.   Ukraine has revealed how it hit the cruiser, which was the third largest ship in the Russian navy.  It used two Turkish drones as decoys, drawing the attention of the ships crew while the sea skimming missiles were the real attack.

Meanwhile, evidence of war crimes keep piling up in towns liberated from Russian occupation.   These include a 16 year old girl in Bucha raped by Russian soldiers, then shot in the head and buried in her back yard,  and 16 girls and women in Bucha held in a cellar for many days and repeatedly raped, 9 of whom are now pregnant.

Here is one of the more recent accounts of war crimes, a 23 year old Russian-speaking Ukrainian girl, who was raped, tortured, and executed by a gunshot to the back of the head.  All but one of her fingernails had been ripped out.  Then she was dumped in a backyard as the Russians left Bucha.
