Subsidizing housing splits Pamlico County commissioners | Eastern NC Now

what is coming down the pike in Beaufort County?

ENCNow

Beaufort County's Commissioners have set up a committee to look at getting involved in "affordable" housing.  That issue has just caused a major split in the 5 to 2 Republican county commission in neighboring Pamlico County.

In Pamlcio County, the issue was a mere "resolution of support" for a private entity seeking funding for subsidized housing.  On the first vote, it was a 3 to 3 tie, with one commissioner absent.  Then it passed by 4 to 3, but someone pointed out that it had been improperly added to the agenda at the last minute, so it will have to be voted on a third time.  The opposition consisted of the three conservative Republicans, and the support from the two Democrats and two less conservative Republicans.

It is feared that the Beaufort County proposal will involve more than just a resolution of support.  True conservatives are not even willing to go that far on this issue of socialized housing.

These things have lots of impacts. At least in Pamlcio County, there is no local taxpayer money going into it, although there will undoubtedly be taxpayer money from other levels in it. There are also impacts on nearby property values that need to be considered and other impacts. It is feared that Beaufort County's Democrat-RINO alliance will push us even deeper into this mess than a mere resolution.
