Hungary looks to coal and shale gas for energy | Eastern NC Now

this is one European country with good common sense

ENCNow

Conservative-run Hungary is one European country with common sense on energy as the continent is hit with massive energy price hikes and shortages.  The Hungarian government is focusing on increasing coal mining and producing its massive shale oil and gas deposits. Exploration has found enough shale gas in Hungary to provide the needs of the country and its immediate neighbors for hundreds of years.

Needless to say, the Greens in parliament are upset and opposing the government's actions.

President Milos Zeman of the neighboring Czech Republic has blamed the rising prices of electricity and shortages on "green madness" by the EU in its Green Deal.

Liz Truss, the likely new Prime Minister in the UK says she will eliminate the energy green electricity surcharges and end the ban on fracking for shale gas.  The UK also has proven deposits of shale gas.  She is also pushing for more nuclear power.

Germany, however, which also has proven shale gas deposits, is refusing to do anything to develop them.  The Green Party is part of their current coalition government.
