Just prior to the War Between the States, 20% of southern blacks were free, and 10% of those free blacks owned slaves. This compares to 4 to 5% of the white southern population owning slaves.

Oh, and one of the slave owners in the state of Kentucky was a former and future army officer named Ulysses S. Grant. One of his later associates, William T. Sherman was not rich enough to own a slave, but it is recorded that while stationed at Fort Moultrie, Sherman rented a slave. When he took the position as superintendant of Louisiana's military academy, Sherman wrote his more well to do wife that when she came down to join him she should buy some slaves for housework.

Conservative grassroots Republicans losing the vice chairmanship to the establishment is hardly "solidifying a hold" on the NCGOP. At the previous convention conservative Mariam Chu defeated the establishment candidate for the office of state GOP vice chairman. She did not run again. This time, the establishment candidate Susan Mills narrowly defeated the grassroots conservative candidate Sherry Womack. Conservatives clearly went backwards on one of the two major offices voted on. There was no contested race for the other office, but it was the establishment that won that one when it was last contested at the previous convention. The Carolina Journal does not have a byline. It could have been an uninformed intern who wrote that piece or it could have been major GOPe player Dallas Woodhouse who now works at Locke and tends to write on party matters.

The NCHSAA needs to be reined in for its "woke" far left politics. It has decreed that boys can compete in girls sports if they claim to think they are girls. That is nothing short of cheating and it is blessed by the NCHSAA even though it is extremely unfair to real girls. A number of state legislatures have passed laws against that utter nonsense, Florida being one of the most recent. If the NCSHAA is going to play this sort of disgusting "woke" politics, maybe they just need to be disbanded.

Editor's note: We would agree that boys should not compete in girls sports or vice versa but you place the blame in the wrong place. The board was advised that current case law does not permit rules to affect such restrictions. The blame should be put where it belongs...the liberal courts and a laggard legislature. Remember SB2?

RINO Dallas Woodhouse supporting a Green New Deal boondoggle is somehow not surprising, but the fact that Locke continues to employ him IS. Biomass is a bigger fraud than even offshore wind. It cuts down forests to make electricity at an inflated cost that jacks up our electric bills, while producing more CO2 per unit of energy than burning coal. Remembering Woodhouse's disastrous stint at NCGOP and his serving as the front man for a Karl Rove operation to elect Thom Tillis, I would hope that anything with his byline on it never appears in a conservative journal or site. Woodhouse is NOT a conservative.

The Biden regime is implementing the Soviet doctrine of politicizing the military, which is very, very dangerous for America. Lloyd Austin was clearly a radical when he was appointed and even testified about conducting a political witch hunt in the military during his confirmation. Those idiots Thom Tillis and Richard Burr voted to confirm him anyway. That is a big reason why conservatives need to work hard to nominate a conservative like Ted Budd to replace Burr, not a squishy establishment moderate like Walker or McCrory.

NEVER "google" anything. Use a different search engine like Bing or DuckDuckGo. NEVER use the Chrome browser. Use something like Brave or Firefox instead. NEVER use gmail. Use something like ProtonMail or Outlook instead. Google not only is notorious for spying on you and selling your information, they are terrible about censoring conservative views on the search engine, which now is more of a propaganda engine. We already had the Second American Revolution. It was fought between 1861 and 1865 and was also known as the War Between the States. In it, the Southern states sought to uphold the limited government principles of Thomas Jefferson, but failed. What is perhaps needed now is the spirit of 1861 and secession from an overbearing central government. Perhaps the Wexit (western exit) movement in the western Canadian provinces would fit in.

I am reminded of the letter from British political philosopher Lord Acton, whose most famous quote is "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely", wrote to General Robert E. It is extreme LEFTISTS who want to damage our Capitol. In the Jan. 6 incident, the only rioter who threatened destruction of the building was known BLM / ANTIFA leader John Sullivan, a leftist instigator who urged members of the crowd to join him in invading the building, shouting "Burn it Down". And, indeed, BLM and ANTIFA have burned a lot down around the country over the past year. While another leftist plat to bomb the Capital was thwarted, the only actual bombing of the Capitol was perpetrated by an offshoot of the far left Weather Underground. Their bomb did a lot of damage outside the Senate chamber.
