Your last comment sums up quite well what I make of it. Jesus was no coward, when the time was appropriate, He used violence in righteousness. Then, again when the time called for it, He was compassionate and spoke against unnecessary violence. The only complexity of the issue is when to use use violence righteously, and when to avoid it. If violence was immoral in and of itself, and the weapons of violence also, we would not have Law Enforcement, the Military, or any other defense against physical evil; so long as we desired to be moral people. The question is less "would Jesus carry a gun," and more "when would righteous men use a gun."
(commented on August 7th, 2014 @ 9:58 am)
Gene, what you are trying to accomplish is shaming people into not defending themselves from harm by holding them to an impossible standard. Jesus did not have to "stoop" to carrying a gun (Thanks Mr. Deatherage, for joining the shaming) because He was the Son of God. The rest of us are mere mortals living in an evil world, in the world but not of it. I encourage you again to take a look at www.biblicalselfdefense.com.
(commented on July 28th, 2014 @ 10:29 am)
Thankyou, Gene. I know we all, well most of us, want to live in a safe world where morality and reason guide the actions of young men, but that world does not exist. If our world today is The Wild West, with mothers hanging long-irons on their hips, it is the criminals that make it that way, not those who would protect themselves from crime.

An openly carried gun certainly gets attention, but that is the point. A concealed weapon may be used to protect oneself once a crime has been initiated, but an openly visible gun may prevent the crime entirely.

I think it's good that she kept a 'clean' appearance while carrying. This helps set a good impression of 'responsible gun owner' instead of 'gun rights nut militia-psycho.' When I see someone in torn jeans, with an untucked t-shirt spouting needlessly aggressive patriotism, and a scowl as mean as the handgun strapped into their 'tacti-cool' thigh holster, I immediately think 'Danger, hothead, avoid.' However, someone in slacks with a collared shirt, a clean haircut and a recently shaved or trimmed beard makes me think of them as law abiding and 'socially acceptable,' even with their gun in full view. Image matters a lot with open carry, I believe.

As for Jesus, I won't parse scripture, but He did command his apostles to arm themselves. Why would he do that if he believed that defense wasn't necessary? He argues against Paul's cutting off the Roman soldier's ear because He knew that what was going to happen had to happen. Paul acted when he should have accepted.

Check out www.biblicalselfdefense.com where people far wiser than I explain the Biblical foundations of personal self defense.

I can't believe that this talented trio came to Washington, NC, to the historic Turnage Theater, and the theater was half empty. These girls were AMAZING. Some of the most beautiful harmonies you'll ever hope to hear. Beautiful songs, both upbeat and slow, with uplifting lyrics and great stories. I've been to well over 100 live concerts in my lifetime and I'm not sure that I've ever heard a more beautiful performance of a song than when The Good Lovelies sang "Best I Know". I got goosebumps several times during the concert. That's how good these girls were. If we're ever fortunate enough to have them back in the area, you do NOT want to miss them. They are a truly special talent. And, in case you don't yet know it, The Turnage Theater is an equally special venue.

I agree with John 100% on who, what, where, when on stun gun usage & good alternative to firearms for LE. I have one in my vehicle and its there in case of an up-close encounter such as attempted entry/carjacking scenario. But as John also pointed out, they would not be my choice for a home invasion robbery or any other threat where distance is desired. If someone breaks into my home while I'm in it, the shotgun is the first on my list when the alarm goes off.

Thinking of you and your family at this sad time dear Jane. May it comfort you to know that God is with you and that others are thinking of you, praying for you and sharing in your loss. I remember so many happy times with your mom, especially the day we pushed Dot Jean and your mom through the mall. Love and hugs to all with sincere sympathy.

So it is ok to limit local party involvment in primary races but not Raleighs' involvement in local party primaries. Also Walter B. can endorse a local candidate but a local commissioner can't. Sounds like political doublespeak or sour apples or complete lack of logic to me. And what happened to the 1st Amendment again?

Now they have the gall to think we are so thankfull that they have given us a choice by voting on their tax increase. How benificent they are!!! Every time they are faced with reality they turn to that old progressive standyby "Raise Taxes". I say we aqquaint them with another reality. Lets vote them out, not vote to raise our taxes.

To the family of Tonia Little, you are in my prayers. I am extremely saddened to hear the passing of Tonia. Tonia was a great friend, humerous, and caring. I am a better man for knowing Tonia and being blessed to have her in my life. I pray the family has comfort knowing Tonia had a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please accept my condolences.

To the family of Ms. Tonia Little. Words cannot express the sadness I feel for your loss of a daughter, sister, aunt and friend. I first met Tonia my freshman year in high school and she proved immediately to be a loving person and such a wonderful friend. Over the years as time separated us from high school we met up again in the DC/MD/VA area. Our conversation picked up as if we had remained in contact over the years. We met up a couple times for lunch and she always had that wonderful "smile" that I knew in high school. Tonia's love for Christ, her character and personality is one that will be cherished. It is so difficult to loose a loved one so dear but Heaven is rejoicing for an Angel called home. As my heart is heavy it also rejoices knowing she had accepted Christ as her saviour. I pray that where you are weak, God will strength your most inner being and that his love will be your blanket of comfort.

Sincerely, Minister Patricia Edwards Silas

If he really wants to move, let him. And then show him just how tough our regulators can be. Or perhaps give him a taste of it before he goes just so he will know what to expect after he's gone.
