I'm absolutely amazed at your description and photos of the neighborhood. I was born there in the early 60's spent my first seven years there before we moved away. We bought a small house near the entrance, then built something bigger a few years later. After 40+ yrs It's exactly as I remember it.

I have much in agreement with both Stan and Hood on policy. Hood and Stan put their names on what they write.

This kind of article may be funny to some — but at the end of the day how is this helping to heal wounds and advance our cause?

And whoever this writer is have the cajones to put your name on it. Other than that it’s a joke and so are you.

I'll try to put together an Equal Protection overview. Meanwhile, this paper (papers.ssrn.com) serves as a good primer on some of the other arguments likely to be made by anti-deportation activists (e.g., preemption of local action by federal regulation).
(commented on June 18th, 2010 @ 3:09 pm)
Unfortunately, some of the proposed measures--at least as they are described by the ACLU article--might trigger Equal Protection Clause difficulties. For example, the Supreme Court has overturned laws that impact the "innocent children" of illegals. Check out Plyler v. Doe, 457 U.S. 202 (1982).

I do not like this Uncle Sam, I do not like his health care scam. I do not like these dirty crooks, or how they lie and cook the books. I do not like when Congress steals, I do not like their secret deals. I do not like ex-speaker Nan, I do not like this YES WE CAN. I do not like this spending spree, I'm smart, I know that nothing's free. I do not like their smug replies, when I complain about their lies. I do not like this kind of hope. I do not like it. Nope, nope, nope!

Requiring photo identification would without a doubt eliminate the various forms of voter fraud. People would no longer be able to vote multiple times using false identities as well as the stated issue of illegal immigrants. My question is why would you want to prevent a flawed system to be remedied? If a politician want votes so desperately, that they don't care how the race is won, then they shouldn't be running, much less elected. Which goes to show how confident they must be are in themselves and what they "stand for".

Anyone who has been in a House or Senate office more than 4 years has accumulated some of accommodations of the deep state. Accepting the percs of the deep state is like being stuck to the tar baby. It is impossible to get loose and if you do you are tarred.

Trump, with the passage of the big beautiful bill, and threatening to prosecute Obama and Hillary has cut deeply into government. He is now a real threat to the deep state.

I expect to see more strange behavior from these people.

Whatley will be as bad or worse than Tillis. I was at the state Republican convention when Whatley rigged his reelections by having the vote done on cell phones. I will never trust him.

Dear Mr. Pyle,

Thank you for your input. It is always a pleasure to hear from any concerned citizen about our town. Our organization is made up of volunteers, who like yourself want to see a better Washington in the future.

I can’t speak for the City of Washington but would like to clarify this issue.

I believe most of the roads you mentioned are state roads (except for Hackney). Funds for road improvements would be done by NCDOT. I would suggest you address your concerns with them too.

Best regards,

If criminals followed our laws, we would not need more laws. It does absolutely no good to create more laws just to have more charges. The only thing that will slow the killings is SWIFT AND HARSH punishment. Not a forty year wait in prison, with enough time to contemplate finishing what you started. When there are multiple witnesses such as the church shooting in South Carolina, death should have found its mark within 72 hours of catching him.

Went to get my yearly inspection the other day. Nurse checked my weight, height, checked my BP, eye sight, took a blood sample, and had me check my aim by peeing in a tiny little cup, then went to wait for the doctor. Doc comes in, listens to my thumpin gizzard, taps on my back while I am inhaling and exhaling, assaulted my arthritic knees with a rubber mallet and then asked if I was still on my diet.

ME: YEP. WHY?
DOC: YOURE NOT LOSING ANY MORE WEIGHT. WHAT DID YOU HAVE FOR BREAKFAST?
ME: 5 EGGS.
DOCTOR: UH...DONT YOU THINK THAT WAS A BIT MUCH?
ME: NO. YOU SAID EGGS WERE GOOD FOR MY DIET.
DOCTOR: WELL, THATS A LOT. WERE THEY FRIED, SCRAMBLED, POACHED, OR BOILED?
ME: CADBURYS.

Commissioner Richardson, you made no such request. You asked where I got my information. I told you during our phone conservation on September 23, 2021, at 8:30 am that if you want to read about the powers of the Constitutionally elected Sheriff you should read the book by Sheriff Richard Mack called " County Sheriff Americas Last Hope." Since you evidently have not read it, I have ordered a copy and had it mailed to your home. It is scheduled to arrive between November 4 to 12. Please review it and pass it along to other members of the Beaufort County Commission. I'm sure you will find it quite interesting. This book outlines how the Constitutionally elected sheriff has powers to stop Federal and State overreach. It gives many examples where it has been done throughout the United States. A police department has no such powers and would jeopardize the constitutional rights of our citizens. Evidenced by the recent orders that most sheriffs in North Carolina told the federal and state governments that they would not enforce things like closing churches and forcing people to comply with unconstitutional mandates.

Mr. Hickman, I believe completely in what I wrote. I believe we are in danger of losing our once well-intentioned country to a growing group of racist Marxists. And you are right, as I pointed out... what is at stake is the loss of our Constitution, our Bill of Rights, and our Declaration of Independence. How many times have you heard Democrats (AOC and even Pelosi) say things like "We've outgrown the Constitution"? OR "The Constitution is racist"? OR "The Constitution is meaningless for these times"? These demons mean business and they won't rest until all our founding institutions, such as the Church, family, education, morality, the grand notions of work and work ethic, unity of Americans, love of country, and the essential principle of personal responsibility, are abolished, destroyed, or undermined. Personal responsibility, the family, and work ethic have already been replaced by the enlargement of social welfare services and government healthcare. The Church has already been replaced by the God who supports abortions, hatred, riots, violence, and property damage, and education has been replaced by Critical Race Theory and other racist and divisive ideologies (Education has been replaced by indoctrination). Unity and love of country has been replaced by racism (intentionally resurrected by the Democrats for political and agenda purposes. These left-wing hijackers are using the very freedoms articulated and secured for us by our Founding Fathers (in the Declaration, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution) to destroy those very rights. If they succeed in destroying our founding documents, then guess what? They destroy the very foundation of the American states and the American union. It will no longer be assumed that individuals have inalienable rights and other essential liberty and civil rights. And that will be the day the government truly and completely (and tyrannically) controls and subjugates us. Patrick Henry said something similar in his "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" speech in Richmond back in 1775. (Everyone should read it in its entirety!) The sad thing is that the left are too stupid and too detached from reality to comprehend the consequences of their actions. Thanks again, Charles.

Meaning for anything but trauma, no treatment would be given at the emergency room?

This truly amazes me. No feelings of unfairness towards the average American citizen and the audacity to complain as a Staffer that it is unfair to be covered by the Health Care bill. Justice prevails in small doses ....now Obama and the Congress need to step up to the plate. Obama, his Cabinet, Czars, and staffers should by law be covered by the Health Care bill.

It all makes me sad for Beaufort County.
It is amazing how uneducated our citizens strive to be. It doesn't need to be this way; they actually go out of their way to be dumbed down.

Actual numbers aren’t important to most voters, like Mr. Taylor stated, so let me state my position differently. The waste I plan on cutting for the Sheriff’s Office is everything that doesn’t work – everything that does not protect property and lives of our citizens, and that which hinders deputy performance.

I intend on setting policy in place to correct any issues deputies may have dealing with the public or other agencies in Beaufort County. I will encourage deputies to work with the Police and Highway Patrol to create a safe environment for everyone.

My opponent thinks that he can bully and twist the truth to gain votes, again I ask the public to consider his record. He has proved himself to be many things, but a businessman he is not, nor an honest man.

Voting starts in four days. Correct problems in our county, vote Donald Dixon for Sheriff.

Ms. Rufino has given us a great analogy to frame the debate of the role of the federal government. She has also given us a great reason why the Tea Party movement is fading quickly as an ideology. The role of parenthood is clear: to raise our children to be independent, productive individuals in our society. Being a responsible parent requires that we instill in our children a sense of responsibility for themselves and those around them. Children cannot and do not learn these traits on their own. The reality is that we give them everything they need to develop. Inherent in that role is a balance to be played as the child grows older; the growing child must understand the boundaries that society and civility place on them. If there are no effective and defined boundaries, then unbridled freedom becomes anarchy very quickly. The government is not our parent. However, I would suggest that as our society continues to evolve in directions our founders could never have fathomed, effective governance becomes more and more critical to our ability to move forward as a nation.
(commented on October 9th, 2011 @ 9:58 am)
Another aspect of these protest movements from the left is that they are trying to relive the 60's. The slogans are the same, the angst is the same, and the lack of employment is the same.
(commented on October 9th, 2011 @ 9:55 am)
As a liberal and former protester, I find Stan's comments to be spot on. The only thing that I would add is that protesters in general-- left wing or right wing-- are typically filled with folks that have entirely too much time on their hands and read way too much of writings that agree with their own ideological perspective. One of my favorite professors at UMASS was a lead scholar at the conservative think-tank, The American Enterprise Institute. His advice to me was to, "always be careful of overstating issues. Overreaction makes you look silly." That hit me hard back then; it remains true today.

Dr. Penders,

It seems you are playing a dishonest game of semantics, because I’m sure you know the definition of integrity: “a concept of consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations and outcomes.” Despite what you say, obviously, you were questioning my father's integrity by saying in your letter to Mr. Richardson, "Apparently Stan does not believe that he is accountable to the voters." Again, you questioned his integrity, in your comment below, by saying that you were attacking my father’s 'responsiveness,' 'reasonableness,' and 'objectivity.' It scares me a little that you would try to manipulate a fact pertaining to your own behavior; since, in your profession, you are trusted to help rearrange the thoughts and behaviors of others. Just admit it: You were questioning his integrity; and, now, I’m questioning yours.

It is absolutely absurd that the county would spend 50 million dollars without a Long Range Facility Plan that includes various alternatives the board could consider, including revisions in the student assignment patterns...such as PreK-5 neighborhood schools in Washington. Such planning should/would include the impact of the proposed Interstate connector from the Greenville By-pass (read ECU medical district) and the new Fred Smith proposed subdivision. What we are getting from Cheeseman is a planning model that is 50 years out of date NOW. The people have spoken...there is a new majority on the School Board but still three members control the planning. Actually two members, one of whom is not elected (superintendent). That is absurd. A solid Long Range Plan would save more than it cost. At a minimum the Board should debate the utility of mega elementary schools that depend on cross-town busing. More absudity! Where is the new majority on the School Board?

October 8, 2024 --The following Sun Shine request was emailed to mcheeseman@beaufort.k12.nc.us:
It is our understanding that a meeting of the Board of Education was held recently in which more than a majority of board members was present and the topic of the meeting was, inter alia, a discussion of campaign material used by board candidate Stacy Davis that led to a letter being sent to Ms. Davis.
Please accept this as a formal request for:
A copy of the minutes of that meeting
A copy of the Notice of Meeting (none was received by the Beaufort Observer despite the fact that we have made a previous request to receive all media notices.)
A statement of why the media was not notified of the meeting as required by law.
A copy of any correspondence originating from the meeting, specifically any correspondence to Ms. Davis concerning her campaign for a Board of Education seat (District 5).
Your immediate response would be appreciated.
Delma Blinson, Editor
Beaufort Observer
As of October 21, 2024 we have received NO RESPONSE.

Is this correct? No white students attend Snowden? Are there no white or Hispanic students living in Richland Township? That does not appear to be possible. Why does not this Superintendent find those kids and determine why they are not enrolled in BCS? Are we to conclude that there are "no white people/students" living in Richland Township/Aurora? How many white students from Richland Township attend school in Pamlico County? If that is true, the Superintendent needs to determine why white students have fled from Snowden.

Hey Deatherage,

What the Fluke?

I remember a time at East Carolina, in 1973, when you would loved a chick like that - 3,000.00 worth of birth control - wow, what a babe?

Best sentiments as always,

The Don.

No I did not; "not that there was anything wrong with it." I was, instead, dodging tear gas canisters until I formed an interest in what I noticed to be individuals that not appear to be part of the group, but who were shouting instructions to the smaller sectors of the crowd as to make them belligerent, and not remain peaceful.

I think it is time to end this conversation. I don't want the FBI to go Full Trump on me, my family or my friends. Who can stand that ... obviously President Trump has withstood it.

As an Independent, I personally do not care if you are a Democrat or Republican or who you support, Scott Hammonds has been a great sheriff and I will continue to support him! #TEAMHAMMONDS

Also, as Bubba said: "Ernie Coleman was one of the worst sheriffs", if not, the worst in my lifetime that is!

Sorry to be the one to tell everyone the truth about this...but a very important part of this story was left out by some of the ones currently reporting on it! The floodgates are literally floodgates, and Border Patrol was also opening them during Arizona's monsoon season when Trump was in charge.

As environmentalists have warned since the former administration began its construction of the border wall, the force of flash floods caused by seasonal rain and the debris they carry would topple the border wall without open floodgates. This is a problem that has already been documented on multiple sections of the wall!

Watch this guy's video to see what I'm talking about: twitter.com

Believe it or not, this is what I found out so please don't shoot the messenger...

Where would our Republic be right now without the Non Patriot Left that breathes life into the existence of these Democratic Socialist, and highly partisan judges?

You are right Toby: Now that there is NO doubt as to who did this evil deed; now the overarching question is ostensibly: Who financed and acted as a handler, or, at the very least, acted as the radicalizing agent of evil to kill this good man?

And ... Never let the Non Patriot Leftists destroy this Constitutional Republic.

Young Tyler's roommate is reported to be "transgender," and working with all authorities, so, let's see where all this goes, and maybe we can find out what and who radicalized the person that assassinated Charlie.
