Osage Indians win court case to remove wind turbines from reservation | Eastern NC Now

84 turbines in wind power project ordered to be removed

ENCNow

The Osage tribe in Oklahoma has won a long running battle with wind power developers in court, obtaining a court order requiring the wind farm developer to remove 84 wind turbines that have been built within the boundaries of the Osage reservation.  While land owners may have been conned into signing leases for the turbines, the tribal government never gave the necessary permits, a point they have been making from the beginning.  All underground aspects of the wind farm will also have to be removed.

This win is similar to a lawsuit won in Norway's Supreme Court where native reindeer herders of Sami tribe of eskimos forced removal of wind turbines from their traditional territory.  The Supreme Courts of Ireland and Australia have also ruled that challenged wind turbine developments had to be removed based on environmental and human health grounds.

This is a good thing, but not for the reason you think. The Nations have a right to do what they want on their land. The white man has long disrespected Native Americans and treated them poorly. Good for them..
