pro-independence right trounces ruling left in Greenland election landslide | Eastern NC Now

left had been in power for two decades but lost half of their seats

ENCNow

Greenland's center-left parties who had ruled for two decades, dramatically lost power in Greenland's parliamentary election, the two coalition parties collectively losing half of their seats and finishing in third and fourth place.  Running in first and second were two pro-independence parties of the right.

In first place was the Democratic Party, a pro-businss center-right party that supports Greenland's independence from Denmakr.  It tripled its number of seats, receiving 30% of the vote.  In second place was the populist right Naleraq Party which calls for an immediate referendum on independence and is closest to Trump's positions on Greenland.  It received 26% of the vote, doubling its number of seats.

Observers expect a coalition of the two pro-independence parties of the right, but coalition talks remain to be held.
