Immigration issue powers Italian right to 18 point lead

Italy's caretaker government is again allowing illegal alien migrants to land in the country, and voters reaction to that is shown in the polling numbers for anti-immigration parties. The three party anti-immigration coalition backing Matteo Salvini has surged to an 18 point lead over the parties of the former center-left government that collapsed a few months ago.

The poll by Noto Sondaggi for Italian television put Salvini's populist nationalist right Lega Party in first place with 21.5%, followed by the ultra conservative Brothers of Italy with 18.5%, the traditional left Democratic Party at 18%, the populist left 5 Star Movement at 16%, and the traditional conservative Forza Italia Party of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi at 13%. While Lega has been in the number one position for the past two years, this is the second poll in a row to show the Brothers of Italy overtaking the Democratic Party for second place. Despite its masculine name, the Brothers of Italy is led by a dynamic woman, Senator Giorgia Meloni.

The immigration issue also has great potential for the Republican Party in the 2022 and 2024 elections in the United States.
